Former CIA official, contractor indicted
The CIA's former No. 3 official and a defense contractor were charged Tuesday with fraud and other offenses in the corruption investigation that sent former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham to prison, The Associated Press has learned.

Federal indictments named Kyle "Dusty" Foggo, executive director of the CIA until he resigned in May, and his close friend, San Diego defense contractor Brent Wilkes, both 52, according to two government officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because grand jury proceedings are secret.

In a separate indictment, Wilkes was charged with conspiring to bribe Cunningham in return for government contracts. A man who was described as a co-conspirator in Cunningham's 2005 plea agreement, John T. Michael, was also charged.

Cunningham, an eight-term Republican, served on the House Intelligence Committee and on the defense subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee — assignments that made him a key figure in the awarding of Pentagon contracts.

9. This will be the last one unfortunately
Bush already massacreed the San Diego Office and put in a GOP flunky. US Attorney Carol Lam, made to resign, is issuing this indictment two days before she is unceremoniously tossed out into the cold.

14. Hope that it doesn't mean her replacement can undo this
Not sure what to call it in legal speak, but the equivalent of dismissing the indictment charges? Since this is a partisan appointment, would that be possible?

Hurray for her issuing these indictments! I hope they stick, and are not prosecuted any less vigorously under the new US atty. That's my question - how likely is that?

12. This is part of an overall $700 million scam in which Rep. Jerry Lewis, Hunter and the Dukester
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 04:22 PM by Dems Will Win
turned phony defense contracts into immense contributions for GOP congressmen. Bush had no choice but to nip this investagation in the bud because another 20 or so GOP reps are involved!

Cunningham had a "menu" you know, of how much it cost for how big a contract!

At one point several of Wilkes phony defense companies all had the SAME FAX NUMBER!

This is the investigation Bush wants covered up, and Foggo, don't forget is also involved with the Hooker Poker Parties at the Watergate with the Dukester!

Anyway, the GOP flunkies are now in charge of the US Attorney's offices and this will likely be the last you hear of this investigation, despite all the attention and the previous guilty pleas and evidence.

It's a bad sign really, the US Attorneys Massacre. It means President Cheney has decided to batten down the hatches and deep-six all investigations of the Culture of Corruption. Thank God he can't get at Fitz!
