Observation: Before 1939 WWI was known as The Great War...
Quotes from Wikipedia:

"Before World War II, the war was also known as The Great War, The War to End All Wars, The Kaiser's War, The War of the Nations and The War in Europe. In France and Belgium it was sometimes referred to as La Guerre du Droit (the War for Justice) or La Guerre Pour la Civilisation / de Oorlog tot de Beschaving (the War to Preserve Civilization), especially on medals and commemorative monuments. The term used by official histories of the war in Britain and Canada is The First World War, while American histories generally use the term World War I."

Today the global economic downturn in the 1930's is referred to as "The Great Depression",

"The Great Depression (also known in the U.K. as the Great Slump) was a dramatic, worldwide economic downturn beginning in some countries as early as 1928. The beginning of the Great Depression in the United States is associated with the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday. The depression had devastating effects in both the industrialized countries and those which exported raw materials. International trade declined sharply, as did personal incomes, tax revenues, prices and profits. Cities all around the world were hit hard, especially those dependent on heavy industry. Construction was virtually halted in many countries. Farming and rural areas suffered as crop prices fell by 40 to 60 percent.<1> Mining and logging areas had perhaps the most striking blow because the demand fell sharply and there were few employment alternatives."

Prediction:
Sometime in the very near future (<5 years) we will be referring to the Great Depression as the First Great Depression, or something to that effect (World Depression 1:WD1).

That is, we will be in the midst of the Second Great Depression (World Depression 2: WD2).

Oh, and BTW, in 2007 October 29th will be a Monday.

and for the record, I hate Mondays.
