'Twas The Night Before Nobel
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 11:23 AM by Admiral Loinpresser
‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE NOBEL
by Anonymous

'Twas the night before Nobel, when all through the house

Not a liberal was stirring, not even my spouse;

The draft was grass-roots and built with great care,

In hopes that The Goreacle soon would be there;

The volunteers nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of Iowa danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long autumn’s nap,

When out in the Netroots there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the browser I flew like a flash,

Tore down all the pop-ups and threw Salon cash.

The prize was awarded for scant Arctic snow,

In hopes that humanity still could say “whoa”,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a kind and calm driver, so ready to cope,

I knew in a moment it must be our hope.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Churchill! now, Roosevelt! now, Franklin! and Truman!

On, Washington! on Kennedy! on, Jefferson and Lincoln!

To the top of the Net! to the top of the polls!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When met with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With a plan for the planet, and humanity too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,

Down the chimney The Goreacle came with a bound.

He was dressed all in black, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with Chris Matthews’ soot;

A bundle of hope he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was no longer in tow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a kind face and a voice strong and bold,

That rang, when truth to power was told.

He was tall and broad, a right jolly old elf,

But I cried when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And bypassed the press corps; mainly made up of jerks,

And casting his voice into powerful prose,

And giving a nod, up polls he rose;

He sprang to his campaign, to Roy Neel gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Nobel to all, and to all a good fight."

6. Nice job!
I'll not give up hope, even after the award is handed out. Not until the last possible moment for him to jump in.

I think he is brilliant for waiting until the other candidates have blustered and flustered and beat each other up to the point they all look like silly geese.

13. There are over 180 nominees and most of them deserve the prize...
Including - for certain - a woman who saved the lives of 2,500 children.

We need to have a Peace Prize at least once a month so that people learn about what we can accomplish - even the so-called "little" people.

The Nobel Committee has awarded the prize in the past to have an effect on current political events -- and, right now, it is do-or-die in terms of taking action to heal our planet.

Also - I heard Stephanie Miller say on air this morning that Gore has cleared his calendar for this weekend -- perhaps he's been informed by people who know the Nobel Prize Committee members that he will win... Perhaps.

I wonder if they do leak to the winners so they can be found when the prize is announced.

18. I think that if the winners are particularly busy & they want that person to be
able to respond quickly and make good use of the publicity, then they most likely to let them know in advance - provided it is a landslide vote for that person in committee.

I don't think it is critical that the winners of the prizes for Literature or Economics be made ready. Apparently, the woman who won for Literature this year wasn't home when the Committee called her to tell her she had won.

Rush was nominated for the Nobel Piece Prize. The prize is awarded to the one person who can divide the public into the most pieces.

34. It wasn't an official nomination
People who can nominate:

Qualified Nominators
– The Nobel Peace Prize
The right to submit proposals for the Nobel Peace Prize shall, by statute, be enjoyed by:

1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;
3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes;
4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1) and
7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

The Nobel Peace Prize may also be awarded to institutions and associations.

Who nominated Limbaugh? The Landmark Legal Foundation.

Landmark Legal Foundation Nominates Rush Limbaugh For 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

Limbaugh called “the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today”

(LEESBURG, VA)…Landmark Legal Foundation today nominated nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his “nearly two decades of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin. These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout the world,” said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.

“Rush Limbaugh is the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today,” explained Levin. “Everyday he gives voice to the values of democratic governance, individual opportunity and the just, equal application of the rule of law – and it is fitting that the Nobel Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a truly peaceful world for future generations.”

and what does Ole Danbolt Mjos, the chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize committee, think about Landmark's nomination of Limbaugh?

On February 1, Landmark president Mark Levin sent a letter to Mjos purporting to nominate Limbaugh for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his "nearly two decades of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin." But according to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, only certain individuals are "qualified to nominate" people for the award: "members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; Nobel Peace Prize Laureates of previous years; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute." Moreover, only those individuals who are specifically invited by the committee may submit candidates. As Levin made clear in his February 1 letter to Mjos, the organization's nomination of Limbaugh was "unsolicited."

In other words, Limbaugh's "nomination" wasn't real. But then, few things in Limpball's world really are.

12. Why are you tying a draft with winning the Nobel Peace Prize?
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 11:41 AM by RestoreGore
They are not related, but I am sure you and those who have done nothing but pummel this man are going to use his successes for all you can squeeze out for yourselves... after all, I did read an interview you gave at an event you were doing surrounding using his movie to turn that political too where you called Mr. Gore a "rock star product" that you can now sell. I now know where you are coming from. And for you to think Al Gore is so shallow that it would take a prize of all things to change his mind, then you are clealry out of the loop. However, in the infinitesimal chance that he should run this time out, I hope he stays far away from the same old groups on the Internet that have done nothing but demean the sincerity of his work with their political speculation BS.

I think it was on Larry King when someone called in and asked him if he would run. Or maybe it was when he was on tour for TAOR and someone came up to him wearing a "Gore '08" button.

Oh yeah, those things never happened. :crazy:
