Nancy Pelosi may go down as the savviest player in history
If the Democrats forced the US out of Iraq, they'd be tagged as "the party that lost the war". We'd be hearing that argument for the next 30 years. Here's her plan:

1. Bring a resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide. How many Members of either party would dare to vote against that?

2. Watch Turkey stop working with the US military in Iraq.

3. Watch the US cut forces in Iraq because it can't use Turkey as a supply base.

Possible bonus:Maybe put Turkey on notice about its treatment of the Kurds?

3. It's a wonderful way of forcing George to bring at least some troops home
without any blame falling on the Democrats. I wish all the troops were home yesterday, but getting any of them out of the line of fire is good.

4. "the party that lost the war" - not they wouldn't. * is seen as losing the war,
not the Dems. The Dems are seen as weak and not doing what they were elected into office to do.

The US doesn't need a staging base since they are occupying Iraq. There's like 14 US bases there, you know.

Just wishful thinking on your part.

7. Not at all - 70% of the supplies come into Iraq and its 14 bases
from Turkey, the rest from the sea to Basra and up that road.

30 % of the fuel used by the US on its 14 bases comes from Turkey.

If you cut the ability to resupply throough Turkey, you cut the war effort.

Go Nancy!

9. Do you really think that if Turkey "cuts" the supply through their...
country, the stuff will just not be shipped directly through the Gulf?

(or that the neo-cons will not just threaten to invade Turkey?)

Take your pick...

10. This is Bush's freaking war...
... and no amount of media spin can fix that. The "war president" got exactly what he asked for and that's that.

That Dems' would be blamed for getting out of a war that most Americans want out of, and that are giving Congress near historically low ratings because no progress has been made toward getting out of, is completely ludicrous.

Pelosi is gutless and for you no amount of spin can fix that either.

11. An interesting proposal
There aren't many other staging options in the ME if the relationship w/ Turkey goes south.
