Rush Limpball's OUTRAGEOUS ebay auction (and what we can do about it)
That puke Rush Limpballs is running an auction on ebay for the letter he received from Harry Reid and other senators about his outrageous criticism of "phony soldiers."

That act in itself is atrocious enough; now they've written an inflammatory, highly offensive auction to sell the letter in which he refers to Reid as "Dingy Harry" and contains other vitriol such as this:

Up for auction is the original letter signed by 41 Democrat senators. This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers.

The auction's been running for 3 days now. Why ebay's allowing it is beyond my comprehension. But there is something we can do about it.

Every auction has a "report" button on the bottom of the page. Let's report the hell out of it!

Here's a link to the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Harry-Reid-Rush-Limbaugh-Smear-Letter_W0QQitemZ260170172469QQihZ016QQcategoryZ4105QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Press the "report" button at the bottom.
Choose "Listing Policy Violations"
Choose "Other Listing Violations"
Choose "Hateful, Discriminatory or Racial Language in an item description"
VERY IMPORTANT: do not stop here!
Press "email us"
(You will need to log in to your ebay account if you have one)
Press "send"

THANK YOU!

16. Who's running the charity? Jim Kallstrom
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 01:00 PM by OzarkDem
Not all charities are good, not all charities help people or do what they say they're doing.

Perhaps we should check out the "Marine Corps -- Law Enforcement Foundation"'s Form 990.

Link:

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2006/223/357/2006-223357410-02de4e77-9.pdf

They took in $2,826,439 in 2006 and gave away $1,814,249. That leaves $1 million for overhead costs.

At the end of the year they had over $7 million in assets.

On edit, president is Jim Kallstrom, who headed the Bushco FBI *cough coverup cough* investigation of the WTC Center.

77. you apparently don't know how to read their Form 990.
Their expenses are actually very low. They have a large surplus, which is not unusual for charitable foundations that want to be able sustain their mission through lean years as well as good years.

They are a very highly rated charity, with the CFC indicating that they only spend 4.7% on fundraising and administration. http://www.charitablechoices.org/guides/CAGuide2002.pdf

Remember that ebay is no longer the dominant force it once was so it cant afford to be snooty about things anymore.

36. Not the "first time" a private citizen attacked by a Political Party.
I disagree with the Democratic Party wasting OUR time by giving any attention to an asshole like Rush. I would prefer them to spend our time by addressing the problems of Media Consolidation, instead of feeding the residents of the slime pit.

Michael Moore, a private citizen, was attacked by Bush* from the podium during a State of the Union address shortly after the realease of F9-11. I believe that was the first time (at least in modern history) that a private citizen was attacked during a State of the Union address.

If anyone knows of any other example of a private citizen being attacked by a sitting president during a State of the Union address, please note them so I can add them to my collection.

50. RE: Who would spend 45 grand on that.
Obviously another Repunklicant.

But have you notice that Rush is winning the propaganda war? He challenged The Good Guys to match the winning bid to their charity of their choice. And by their not saying anything he’s proven his point. It’s bad enough we couldn’t tell the difference between a fake soldier who never was in the service with somebody who was. He is milking it for everything he can.

And another way he’s winning the propaganda war: The bidding has been going on through the weekend and only now are we finding out about it. Over 200,000 viewers have seen it and only now are we doing anything about it. Has nobody bothered to “Know your enemy” and bothered to even listen to his show for a few minutes? We are being laughed at by the Wrong Wing!

We need George Soroes to buy the items and destroy them.
If he can keep Air America on the air he should be able to come up with the spare change and win.

48. who has an ebay account?
why not find copies of rush's arrest record... aren't those things public record?

offer it on ebay, but people have to pay with "currency" defined as

1. illegal oxycontin scripts icons
2. trips to sex tourism sites icons
3. icons of anal cysts over Rush's deferment from service.

whoever has the highest bid gets a physical copy of the record for the cost of copying and mailing.

or maybe not.

52. Look at this disclaimer at the bottom of the *Officers* page ...

of "The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc." that they say the money will go to.

Link: http://www.mc-lef.org/Officers.asp

The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc. is also registered to participate in the Combined Federal Campaigns (CFC #2134).

I have a suspicion that this means whatever money they receive can be contributed to the RNC. Anyone else have any ideas on this? I just can't imagine OxyRush doing anything with a lot of money involved that he or one of his hatemonger causes will not profit from, even at the expense of the *troops*.

121. Are you being serious?
Do you know what the combined federal campaign is? It's a way for federal employees (including the military) to sign up for payroll deduction to the charity (or charities) of their choice on one single COMBINED form.

You can send $10 per paycheck to the "Save the Baby Seals" campaign, and $25 per year to the United Way, or any other combination you want, all by filling out a single form once a year.

It's actually a pretty good idea in that it makes it simple for federal employees to contribute to a variety of charities without having to look up addresses, research the validity of the charity, write and mail checks, etc. You fill out the form, turn it in, and they take care of the rest.

By providing their CFC number, this charity is showing that they have already been checked out and shown not to be a scam.

How you think this somehow ties them to the RNC is completely beyond me.

Here is my response to Ebay:

"States money is going to charity, however, the "charity" listed is a political entity. The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc. is also registered to participate in the Combined Federal Campaigns (CFC #2134). These are illegal campaign contributions for the Republican Party. This is pure fraud. I also am concerned there are shills bidding for this."

68. The Combined Federal Campaign is not a political organization
It is the program by which federal employees and military members can make donations directly to their favorite charities and non-profits via payroll deductions.

The Marine organization saying they are part of CFC is simply saying that they accept contributions via CFC using the pledge number they listed.

No fraud whatsoever.

To sell his book it's only necessary to include an ISBN # and a brief condition description. The buyer either wants it or s/he doesn't.

This auction, otoh, is political hype for the sake of publicity. Do you really think the insults and condescension contained in the listing are just "business"? If so, you're pretty naive.

This isn't about free enterprise. It's about allowing hateful divisiveness to masquerade as business as usual. I'm just calling them on it. You're free to participate, or not.

You do realize this is why Republicans take stuff from this website and use it in their ads and fundraisers. Trying to shut down a charity auction for veterans because political opinions are "hate"?

As with most things Repug, this "charity" is a fundraising arm of the GOP.

"Not all charities are good, not all charities help people or do what they say they're doing.

Perhaps we should check out the "Marine Corps -- Law Enforcement Foundation"'s Form 990.

Link:

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2006/223/357/2006...

They took in $2,826,439 in 2006 and gave away $1,814,249. That leaves $1 million for overhead costs.

At the end of the year they had over $7 million in assets.

On edit, president is Jim Kallstrom, who headed the Bushco FBI *cough coverup cough* investigation of the WTC Center."

Absolutely untrue. Its a legitimate charity. One with a good record. Maybe you and I don't like the folks that run it or are its board, but there is not a scintilla of evidence it is anything other than a legit charitable foundation that supports families of soldiers/law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. And its financial records show that it spends a very small amount on fundraising and management -- far less than, say, Habitat for Humanity.

He was not talking about Jesse MacBeth. He cleary insulted true soldiers. At first I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then called "Vote Vets" which is an anti war group of Iraqi veterans to suicide bombers. http://mediamatters.org/items/200710020014

He also altered his transcript to make it look like he was talking about MacBeth

http://mediamatters.org/items/200709280013

He also called both John Kerry and Jack murtha Phony Soldiers

http://mediamatters.org/items/200709280002

http://mediamatters.org/items/200709280011

I think now after all the real soldiers he called "phony soldiers" on his show and all the insults he throws at them, we know his true opinions. He cant hide behind this Jesse MacBeth excuse when his True unaltered transcripts say otherwise.

1. Issue the winning bid.

2. Pay for it with a check made out directly to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.

3. When you receive the items, remove and retain the briefcase because ZERO Halliburton bags (no relation to the Halliburton Cheney works for, so far as I know) are really nice. Get a medium-size box and put into it:

a. The original letter from the Senators with a note attached to it that says the Senators were right about him
b. Pigboy's personal note and picture, torn in half
c. Department of Justice sentencing guidelines for illicit possession of Schedule II narcotics
d. A box of Phillies Blunts, in assorted flavors

4. Mail it back to Rushbo, using the cheapest form of parcel mailing available.

107. Issuing the winning bid isn't quite that easy
It's up over $50,000 now. It's just not worth that. If I wanted to donate that much money I would send it right to the charity, not legitimize the auction by bidding on it.

113. Well, perhaps a slight relation to Cheney's Halliburton...
From the Zero Wikipedia entry, "In 1952 Zero, which until then had no relation to Halliburton, bought the luggage division of Halliburton, the Texas oilfield services company."

*sigh*

You're right.

Every criticism here is making the Wrong Wing snicker and laugh at us.

And they have a point. It is our duty to tell politicians to shut up.
But unless slander is involved politicians have no right to tell US to shut up.

I did some investigating. I'm staring to wonder if some conspiracy is out there to trip us up. Rush is scoring major points with the Wrong Wing here. He can say that us Democrats don't believe in free speech.

145. Since he's registered his auction with e-Bay's "Giving Works".......
program and since 100% of the proceeds are going to the charity, e-Bay will refund 100% of both the insertion and Final Value fees. Neither e-Bay nor Limbaugh gets anything but a truckload of publicity out of this.

The bid is over $800,000 now, and he's matching the winning bid. That's one Hell of a lot of money being raised for a good cause. Why on Earth would anyone try to stop anyone, even if it is Limbaugh, from doing something good for deserving kids? Isn't that what we say they do? Do we not give them the right to paint us with the hypocrisy brush when we try to undermine things like this?

I'm just sayin'............

133. I'm not going to risk my eBay account with a trumped up complaint -
- because this auction doesn't violate any eBay listing rules. The bid is over $117,000. at this point and the proceeds go to a charity for children of fallen marines and law enforcement. Limbaugh has agreed to match the bid with a personal donation so I hope that it goes sky-high so that he has to rattle his pockets to make the match!

143. They'll pay in some fashion -
- as its a restricted, pre-approved bidder only auction. To bid in excess of $15,000., you're required to provide a valid credit card or complete an ID verify process. You are charged $5. just to have your ID verified. The bid itself is a legal contract. Anyone trying to squirm out of paying will not get off totally free. They face having their credit card charged to its max as well as possible legal fees.

Whatever happens, it will be interesting to watch.

144. "They face having".. No, they most certainly do not.
Pre-approved does not mean an obligation to pay. And you are not charged to "verify" on eBay. The bid is only enforceable in a civil action, and will seldom be ruled in favor of the plaintiff(there are a million legal reasons to get out of the deal).

As a long time eBay seller, believe me, a bid means nothing. But you're right on one point, it will be interesting.

140. Nah.
The bid's up to $851,000: I anticipate that by bid's end, with Rush's match, that will be an excess of $2 mil to a good charity. I don't really find anything offensive in the ad, and if he wants to support a good cause by selling some paper, then good on him.

152. I think you underestimate dittoheads
They are totally insane. If he says "shit" they open their mouths like birds. I'm serious, there was some terrible song he put on as a joke once and joked that he liked it, and they started calling and asking where to get it for their weddings. He was like, it was a joke, but they still didn't get it. And some of them are rich. He gets a lot of money every year on his leukemia donation thing. So if he's selling something they figure they gotta get it, even if it costs them their yacht and their vaca house in Barbados. :puke: They'll put out the money. They're not too smart.

Most of the richer dittoheads wouldn't spend a cent on anything that didn't have at least a 20% rate of return. Giving millions of dollars to orphans of soldiers killed in the conservative movement's glorious war in Iraq would just be another "socialist handout" as far as they were concerned. When Rush raises money, it's usually from the poor slobs.

But in terms of campaign money (even IF it's somehow diverted to someone's campaign), 2 million is small potatoes. We're better off ignoring this and moving on to more important matters.

But Rush and his cronies aren't.

He's on record saying that he'll match the winning bid with his own money.
He has challenged the 41 senators to match the winning bid to the charity of their choice. At last count this is over $82 million to MoveOne or A.N.S.W.E.R. to name just two charities out there. Rush can use this to cause us all sorts of problems next year.

193. EXCERPT FROM RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOW:

Our winning bidder, subject to the receipt of funds... is a wonderful woman named Betty Casey, as trustee of the Eugene B. Casey Foundation. She gives significant sums to hospitals, hospices, colleges, and private schools. These include the Eugene B. Casey Diabetes Education Center, The Eugene B. Casey Swim Center and the Eugene B. Casey Academic Center , and The Casey Home hospice. She has also donated tens of millions from the foundation and her personal funds to the Washington Opera.

Betty has been a listener to my program since it's inception, and we can't thank her enough for her support. We'd also like to thank Ebay Giving Works for allowing us to break their website in the closing moments of the auction, and Auction Cause, who was our consultant in prequalifying bidders and developing the auction
