Is the Clinton campaign feminist ?
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 06:51 PM by bigtree
I just saw on the MSNBC crawl that some of Hillary Clinton's "advisers" said her campaign had become "more feminist than they anticipated." It got me wondering if all that was true and if that was a good or bad thing.

Where would the feminism be found? In her policy priorities? In her approach to the issues? In the way she communicates?

And, could a feminist campaign be superior to a masculine one?

Or is the entire notion of a feminine or a masculine campaign just bullshit?

4. There have got to be quite a few definitions of that term.
But I can't imagine that her gender will have some effect, I just don't want to be the one to define that, whatever it is.

in evaluating the candidates as to their abilities and not their gender.Hillary does not pass muster with me and I refuse to vote for her, in the primary. The fact that she is a woman should not mean anything more than she is 5'4 and has blue eyes.It has nothing to do with qualifications. True feminsim believes that people should be judged independet to their gender.

3. Why wouldn't it be feminist?
I certainly could argue with Hillary's propensity to value laissez faire capitalism over social issues (for what she perceives as being practical?), but she's undeniably a feminist. It is superior to a masculine campaign for her. Now, a guy running, sure that would be more masculine. I don't know that we've had a man run a genuinely feminist campaign. We've had woman-friendly candidates (BC, JC), but genuinely feminist? That I would reserve for Shirley Chisholm and Geraldine Ferraro.

I would say it's Hillary's communication style that is feminist: the desire to include everybody in the "conversation," talking about issues that are important to women (if only in a muted way).
