He should endorse someone who has a chance of giving Hillary a run for her money. He should endorse someone who's more in line with his ideas than she is. I realize a lot of people think that should be Dennis but he really doesn't stand a chance whether Gore endorses him or not.

1. He got burned by endorsing Howard Dean last time
I don't think he will do that again.

3. So what?
Why should that determine whether or not he endorses?

22. Howard Dean himself didn't "burn" him -
the poster above is referring to the fact that Dean was up and coming, and had Gore's endorsement, and then WHAMMO! The "Dean Scream" happened, and goddamn 'puke controlled MSM played that bit 24-7 for a month straight.

And so Gore's endorsement was for naught...

24. Well, there was MUCH more to it than that
but I'm not going to re-hash old history here. Let's just say it was all set up to come to THIS moment -- Hillary the "frontrunner."

5. My hunch is that Al Gore will not endorse any specific candidate.
I think he will comment on the various candidates plans and proposals, especially as regards the Climate Crisis and energy and environment issues in general.

What we know for sure is that when the primaries are over - Al Gore will strongly support the Democratic ticket - and work closely with whoever is the nominee.

In December 2003 Al Gore make a big announcement endorsing Howard Dean and in the end it really didn't have any significant impact on the outcome of the primaries.

It might also be one of the reasons why Al Gore was not given a prominent prime-time speaking slot at the National Democratic Convention in 2004.

Maybe it would be safer and smarter for Al Gore to not endorse anyone this time around ...

8. I really think Al Gore is trying to stay above the endorsement
thing, because he has hopes of participating in the next administration as a statesman, if he endorses neither then he leaves it open to support whoever gets the nomination,,,,Smart move INMHO

11. There is no advantage for Al to endorse anyone.
As soon as the nomination is assured for someone, he will endorse that person, IMO.

There's no political advantage in making a possible enemy - if someone other than the person he endorsed is the next president.

13. Would that actually help or hurt?
there might be a large group of people who feel so hurt and disillusioned by Gore's not running that they're turned off by him.

I think he should just come out with it, say definitively that he's not running and does not want to be in consideration, and that he will work for the eventual Democratic nominee whomever that may be.

14. He's been pretty definitive on the subject lately.

I suppose, however, that it'll take a dedicated press conference here in the States for people to consider the issue resolved.

at least here who have convinced themselves that he hasn't closed the door yet, so I guess he's going to have to break it down in very small words.

19. Agreed.
Personally, I think he's (understandably) quite happy with the current status of his life, and I have no clue why he'd want to give that up to enter the snake pit that is politics again.
