I have seen the following statement several times
in the last few days: "All republicans must go"

What would be the future of our party then?

Would we split or would we continue to rule as a one-party system?

I am not a big fan of the Greens or Socialists coming up and the Dems becoming the Conservative party
this is not a Harry Turtledove novel (obscure reference I know).

3. I think your missing the point, the repubs have proven to be unable
to have the power these people have these days. The majority of their ideas of how this country should be run is proof positive they are in no way shape or form fit to lead. Do I desire any one party to have such control? Absolutely not, as deverse as we are in this country, its pretty obvious that you cannot please everyone all the time and we as a nation should be aware of such and in giving up some conscessions we are in fact doing what we claim to do which is allowing democracy to continue.

5. No risk there
especially for the present state of our party. I ahve seen lots of landslide elections and the local elections go their own way most of the time with sea changes of "throw the bums out" alos applied very locally. The tradiditonal party systeme in America is inured to reality, common sense, wide interest and about anything else. That is unfortunately mirrored all too fatally in the would be "super party" that by some unforeseen miracle(not blowing any advantage and getting unlooked for luck).

The GOP has the real problem with its base shrivelled and in disarray and discredited even in the mirror.
The remnants would be pitiful, in denial and staunchly local- as always. As always they will blow the oppoirtunity for reform and change and get suckered into the next anti-Constitutional cheat who can make a win happen despite reason or the majority.

The problem is not in the Dems splitting quite yet but in new parties gathering like vultures around the GOP. Real Conservatives, the old style power establishment, the religious zealots and far right, moderate and libertarians and perhaps a new attempt at a "bi-partisan party" that died in Perot's hands. The latter would attract more money and dedicated insanity as opposed to the Greens trying to keep from being an advocacy party and morphing into a broker or rival. Since the RW has nowhere to go the real possibility for third parties is on the right. It would be healthy to have them split and to not have the centrist Dems unperturbed by progressives. they might even go slow on reforms that would give help to the kinder gentler new liberal parties- and thus oppress their health while the Right seethed in exciting dynamism.

Things might get interesting or more of the same. Or reviving some older things like new parties and new ideas for new, demanding times.

6. Frankly, if we
achieve a super majority in both houses, I see nothing wrong with reversing Marbury vs Madison and telling the Supreme Court to go fuck itself.

7. Harry turtledove...that alternate WWI history series?
where the Republicans, thanks to Lincoln losing the civil war, have become defunct, and the country is split between the Dems and socialists? Just curious.

I would say the Repubs need to go - not because they represent conservative values, but because they represent corruption and bullying.

10. You talk about that fictitious political lineup like it's a bad thing
Well, the North losing the Civil War IS bad.

But having Dems and Socialists as the parties that duke it out? Sign me in for that!
