Bush: I veto bills to ‘ensure that I am relevant.’

Bush: I veto bills to ‘ensure that I am relevant.’

Today in his press conference, President Bush attempted to justify his recent veto of an SCHIP expansion by explaining that he needs to issue vetoes in order to prove to people that he’s still the Decider:

That’s why the president has a veto. Sometimes the legislative branch wants to go on without the president, pass pieces of legislation, and the president can then use the veto to make sure he’s a part of the process. And that’s what I fully intend to do. I’m going to make sure. And that’s why when I tell you I’m going to sprint to the finish, and finish this job strong, that’s one way to ensure that I am relevant. That’s one way to ensure that I’m in the process. And I intend to use the veto.

Watch it:

Bush has issued four vetoes during his presidency, twice blocking stem cell research, withdrawal from Iraq, and now SCHIP.

1. Hmmmm, so you deny health care to millions of children just to
prove you're relevant?

:wtf: hey scotty, beam him up huh???

he has some psychological and psychiatric issues, really.

he is defiant and has some skeletons in the closet. He has quite the personality disorder, he is trying to prove himself to his father that he is relevant perhaps??? he is a very sick man. Any psychologists out there in DU? Plus he does not recognize the three branches of the legislature, he does not recognize the Constitution especially if he thinks he is supposed to protect the people, now in all our lives, have we ever heard a President he must protect the American people isn't he supposed to respect the oath he took when he took office? I only wish our voices would scream it out that we know that he is an out of control, unfit man.

4. it's always been about the boy emperor's massive ego
like a selfish spoiled brat throwing tantrums in the oval office to get his way.

all the vetos in the world will not relinquish the moniker history has awarded you: the worst president ever.

13. ....................
but to use that term "relevant" he thinks in his sick mind that is not relevant, but does he not understand the policies and procedures of Checks and Balances. Aren't the alarm bells ringing off in DC saying how sick this man is? He veto's everything, everything that the Dems bring up he blocks, he cuts valuable programs needed for needy people, and who was on last nite on Keith, Paul Krugman who said these are people who feel the needy, women, children and the elderly are not alloted for help. They truly do not believe in helping others who are less fortunate.

14. So does that mean GWB wasn't relevant for the first 5 1/2 years of his 'presidency'?

15. after watching Cheney's law last nite this "relevant" comment
made by mad dog * could be highly related to why Cheney believes that the President should be granted unlimited powers. Cheney has deep disdain for oversight and Congress, and feels that the President should have free reign. * is being a good puppet for cheney.

Watch PBS Frontline Cheney's Law if you haven't.
