Join Democratic Socialists of America!
http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html

Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.

With all of the Bush/congress crimes it is a perfect time to join DSA! Bush has been good for socialism...DSA has grown 40% in the last 4 yrs to about 10,000 members. DSA is the largest socialist organization in the USA. DSA is not a political party, it is an activist organization that tries to push the left-wing of the Democratic party and third parties in a more socialist direction. Their convention will be in Atlanta this Nov. and Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders will give the key note address. DSA was also a driving force in the creation of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Some Democrats in the Progressive Caucus are DSA members as well.

6. Ah, I see it now.

That's what I get for posting at work. I saw the name, skimmed a bit of the beginning, missed the part where it says it's not a party, and jumped to a conclusion. Posting from work is sometimes like driving in traffic. Snap decisions, doncha know.

Sorry about that.

No need to get insulting though. Honest mistake. I've certainly seen plenty of parties with such names.

5. I think it should support the Socialist Workers Party.
Isn't the SWP still fielding candidates? And 10,000 votes might matter to them.

7. Join Progressive Democrats of America instead.
Progressive Democrats of America works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice. Our goal: Extend the victory of Nov. 2006 into a permanent, progressive majority.

featured an article on PDA by the PDA Executive Director...

12. The fact that people aren't aware that this isn't "Sean Hannity's term"
is one of the reasons we're in the situation we're in.

No sense of history, no willingness to reclaim terms that define us.

You realize that there are Democrats (elected and otherwise) who belong to this group?

14. Sorry, too many Marxists.
I consider myself a socialist of a sort, but a Marxist I ain't, and haven't been ever since I read The Open Society and It's Enemies by the late Austrian-English philosopher Sir Karl Popper back in 2004 during my freshman year of college. All Marxists are totalitarians by definition no matter how much they insist otherwise.

15. Are you a socialist? Or a social democrat?
There's a lot of variability and contention in how these terms are used, of course. I follow fairly traditional use. A socialist believes in eliminating private ownership of production. GE stock somehow would be transferred from its current owners to either its workers or to government control. A social democrat believes in publicly funded social programs.

17. I'm a bit of both. I fancy myself a "Liberal Socialist"
I'm a liberal in the sense that, unlike Marxists and Anarchists, I consider Liberal Democracy the best form of government. I am a socialist in the sense that I consider corporate power is a threat to a free and open society the the fuctioning of a liberal-democratic government and thus economic power needs to be in the hands of the employees and of society as a whole as much as practical. I am against a planned economy, I like a reasonably regulated market economy populated by sole proprietorships (small family businesses, etc) partnerships, co-ops, larger enterprises that have a mix of elements of co-ops and corporations, and government-owned corporations in vital industries like oil.

If you want real militant Marxists, nothing beats these guys:

Also, you do know that, up till a few years ago, the Democratic Socialists of America HOSTED the Congressional Progressive Caucus's website, right?
