I got an e-mail from Amnesty International this morning. Here's a bit of it.
EMERGENCY APPEAL
Act Now for Peace in Darfur
The situation in Darfur is very unstable.
In advance of peace talks slated to start October 27 in Tripoli, Sudanese armed forces have gathered in northern Darfur, threatening the fragile progress that's been made in the region.
Now, it is more vital than ever for strong, effective action to stop the killing in Darfur. Help bring peace to the people of Darfur by supporting Amnesty International.

http://www.amnesty.ca/shakehands/Sometimes things come in waves. I just heard an interview on CBC radio with a Canadian police officer from Waterloo, Ontario, who's been to Darfur a few times to get people's stories. (with the US State Department and the UN)
As she spoke, I was reminded over and over again of Gen. Roméo Dallaire and how broken he was when he was left powerless in the face of genocide in Rwanda.
This officer, too, felt that her reports would lead to action. Her reports contributed to Colin Powell's declaration that the Sudanese are, in fact, committing genocide. But the people of Darfur continue to wait. And this officer continues to tell their stories.
The interview hasn't been posted yet, but when it is the URL will be
