Microsoft fixes 20 security holes
Why I hate Microsoft, part 3,297:

Microsoft fixes 20 security holes

Windows users are being urged to install Microsoft's February security update which contains 12 patches for 20 vulnerabilities.

The bumper package includes fixes for loopholes that malicious hackers are known to be already exploiting.

Another vulnerability is in the program Microsoft designed to spot viruses and spyware that has infected PCs.

Half of the patches in the update have been rated as critical; criminals exploiting these could take over a PC.

The story can be read at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6360433.stm

1. SP2 will be everyone's friend, just like always
If I could, since I COULD make that decision at my place of employment, we would go to Mac's.

Software is what holds us back. Custom software (public safety software actually). Stuck with MS.

We won't be migrating to Visa ANY time soon....the folks who I work with that came to me and said "I put Vista on my computer!" in their feeble attempt to one-up me, have all gotten the same reponse . . " Played any ITunes lately?"

Revenge is sometimes oh so sweet.

3. Did you read the article?
None of the patches affected Vista - the newest version of the Windows operating system which was released on 30 January.

2. Once again proving that
microshaft aplications suck big time. If you stay away from IED, Lookout!, and Orifice and their so-called security applications you are infinitely more safe than if you use their crap.

4. RwStory.com has a post/link for it ....
with the link "Microsoft issues more Vista security fixes".

The last paragraph states: None of the patches affected Vista - the newest version of the Windows operating system which was released on 30 January. and has below a picture of the Vista premier "None of the patches are for Windows Vista".

Wish these people would get their shit together.

8. Yes, the article was deceptive
After posting here, I finished reading the BBC article. Even though they had a picture of the Vista logo, none of the patches affected Vista. And apparently, MS has acknowledged that they have known for weeks that hackers were exploiting these bugs and delayed issuing a patch.

MS marketing propaganda? "If you use XP, there are still a LOT of exploits and bugs but we are in no hurry to fix them. If this bothers you, buy our overly expensive new operating system, which does not need to be patched (yet.)"

5. One patch worth doing - DST
One of the optional patches is supposed to be rerated as critical. It's the Daylight Savings Time patch, so your computer (in the US anyhow) will correctly reset the time for the newly adjusted daylight savings time in March.
