US border fence made in China

By Libby

You can't make this stuff folks. I think the US-Mexico border fence is one of most boneheaded wastes of tax dollars the government has ever foisted off on us but to add insult to injury, they used Chinese steel to build it.

“By allowing the use of Chinese pipe (a type of steel), DHS is allowing the U.S. taxpayer to subsidize Chinese production at the expense of the American workers,” Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) said at a press conference. “This is completely unacceptable.”

English displayed photos of a portion of the border fence from San Luis, Ariz., that shows pipes marked “China” holding the border fence in place. He said DHS’s Office of Congressional Affairs had indicated it had waived the so-called Buy American rules in order to use the Chinese pipe and tube. The rules normally require the use of U.S. steel in such projects.

Wouldn't you think our chest thumping "patriots" would have bought US steel just on principle? Last I looked the industry wasn't exactly thriving. But who knows, maybe the incompetent fools in charge were hoping the illegal immigrants who are going to be breaching the fence would be fooled into thinking they had tunneled too far when they see China written on the steel and will simply turn around and go home.

7. I'm dial-up impaired, can't do YouTube, but here's a funny
International borders extend to the MIDDLE -- like, of the Rio Grande River. SO, this fence is going to be raised on terra firma, NORTH, of course, of the river. Doesn't this mean we are CEDE-ing the whole river to Mexico?!!1 Yeah, I know it's a technicality, but it's a symbol.

& then there are the millions/billions being thrown away on "border-crossing/protection" flim-flam ---------passports. Fees of 220 and 260. SUMbody's raking it in. Must be Neill Shrub.

11. FYI
the link is to a music video - country/folk musician Tom Russell singing "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall?"

Who’s Gonna Build Your Wall
by Tom Russell

I got 800 miles of open border
Right outside my door
There’s minutemen in little pickup trucks
Who declared their own dang war

Now the government wants to build a barrier
Like old Berlin, 8 feet tall
But if Uncle Sam sends the illegals home
Who’s gonna build the wall

Who’s gonna build your wall, boys
Who’s gonna mow your lawn
Who’s gonna cook your Mexican food
When your Mexican maid is gone

Who’s gonna wax your floors tonight
Down at the local mall
Who’s gonna wash your baby’s face
Who’s gonna build your wall

Now I ain’t got no politics
So don’t lay that rap on me
Left-wing, right-wing, up-wing, down me
I see strip malls from sea to shining sea

It’s the fat cat white developer
Who’s created this whole damn squall
It’s a pyramid scheme of dirty jobs
And who’s gonna build your wall

Who’s gonna build your wall, boys
Who’s gonna mow your lawn
Who’s gonna cook your Mexican food
When your Mexican maid is gone

Who’s gonna wax your floors tonight
Down at the local mall
Who’s gonna wash your baby’s face
Who’s gonna build your wall

We’ve got fundamentalist Muslims
We’ve got fundamentalist Jews
We’ve got fundamentalist Christians
That’ll blow the whole thing up for you

But as I travel around this big old world
There’s one thing that I most fear
It’s a white man in a golf shirt
With a cell phone in his ear

Who’s gonna build your wall, boys
Who’s gonna mow your lawn
Who’s gonna cook your Mexican food
When your Mexican maid is gone

Who’s gonna wax your floors tonight
Down at the local mall
Who’s gonna wash your baby’s face
Who’s gonna build your wall

14. Excellent!1 & Thanks!!1
& more funny: A year ago the idiot Minutemen were building, like, one mile of fence on private property in AZ. They had (have?) a token Hispanic, Al GARZA, as their prez and spokesdude. The Spanish language network Univision was covering the to-do and interviewing him. The Univision people do a bang up professional job. They had a close-up on the dude, with the reporter off camaera and the mic just visible at the bottom of the frame. While he was talking, the camera slowly panned away to one side, traveled past a bit of land, and ended up on a neat stack of large concrete mix bags, about ten high, each one with the logo in huge block letters, "MEXCLA CONCRETO MEXICANO" (Mexican concrete mix). So despite their cover story of standing for USA-only people and products, they would probably hire undocumenteds to save some cash in building their wall.

2. I think I just heard Lou Dobb's head explode.
LOL, that is par for the course with these fools. They went from railing about a wall between countries in the '80s to putting up a wall between countries. Maybe they are actually going for a replica of the Great Wall of China.

4. Actually, that was reported on Lou Dobbs tonight.
And yes, his head did explode. Just like last night. And night before. And that was the condition the night before that. That takes us back to the weekend.

9. I wonder if he does parties?
And for tonight's fireworks display, we'll tell Lou Dobbs that according to a recent poll over 45% of US citizens don't care if undocumented workers come into the US.

:nuke:

Ooooh pretty lights!

10. Penn and Teller did a bit where they had Mexicans build a fence
and then try to get through it. It took one guy less than a minute.

8. Chinese steel? They probably just sold the WTC back to us.
Wouldn't that be the ultimate irony?

13. Believe it or not you are probably right

I think the Chinese bought the scrap from the WTC. I work in the steel industry and I am not sure if any American company actually makes pipe or tube anymore, my company went out of that business about 30 years ago. I know there is no American company capable of making the steel used in the WTC anymore. Back in the late 70's my company got a Federally insured loan to build a rail mill and shortly after the Washington DC Subway System bought their rail from France. Our rail mill only operated for a couple years and the company ended up defaulting on the loan and the taxpayers were stuck with a $100,000,000 bill. A couple years ago we built an electric arc furnace with another Federally insured loan (thanks to Senator Byrd of WV). I probably saw every piece of the project and saw one piece of pipe about 20' feet long made in the USA I asked one of the pipe-fitters about it and he said it had been laying in their storage yard for probably 10 years. Other than that piece of pipe the only other American made product I saw was a couple air conditioning units.
on edit: It's not that we didn't use American made products on purpose, they just don't exist anymore.
