I think Huckabee is going to be the Republican Presidential Candidate
I think as his poll numbers increase, the religious right will throw their support behind him and he will ride that to the nomination.

Am i Crazy?

1. He thinks undocumented workers should be treated as human beings

He's out of the running for the GOP nomination. I mean those people aren't WASPs.

2. The only problem is his name.
President Huckabee? It sounds like a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. But aside from that, he should be their guy.

3. Nope.I have said that for awhile. He is actually "authentic' and that could help him.
I don't agree with the guy on almost anything but he is sincere.

7. Yes. he's playing "the nice guy," the "amiable" pol who's not gonna play
mean or dirty and say bad things about people, yet he's one of the Flat Earthers.

He's a genuine threat. BECAUSE he's so "nice." And that's bound to be attractive to the surface-dwellers who vote based on their "gut" and the contrived feel-good bullshit in the last campaign commercial they saw. huckabee worries me. He'll probably be a viable compromise candidate, or everybody's pick for second on the ticket. Which would be MOST problematic, I think.

10. He's the only one on that side who seems genuine, and actually
human. The repugs would be fools to fall for the same crap again, and select one of those other wackos.

15. I saw on one of the Sunday talk shows
that in the recent "values voters" straw poll, he garnered 51% of the vote from people attending the fundie conference. This was not reported widely in the news, as Romney narrowly defeated him when all the online voting over the past couple of months was included in the tally.

18. Only if a whole lot of other republican constiuencies stay home during the primaries.
I think the reactionary religious right is in a battle with other republicans per who "rules" the party. Until W - it was never a question (some pandering, but no loyalty to their demands) - after W there is the falacious belief that all other repoublicans would fall behind the wishes of the reactionary religious righr - even as their public influence is far on the decline.

It really depends on how many of the republican base which is not part of the religious/social conservatives are willing to give up their power within the party versus how many flee the party (and there is a large rate of republicans now reidentifying themselves as "independents".

This primary and election will be very significant on the republican side in terms of which strand of the GOP ideologues (that do not see eye to eye) will dominate their party - particulary per the role of the reactionary religious right.

20. I too said early on--Watch Hckabee. but the GOP just like
our party has it elites and deciders. Iqestion if he will
be able to pass muster with the Economic Bigwigs.

You know the Gop is always pining for a Regan. Personality
and Temperament and approach--Huckabee is the closest
to Regan.

He is a Conservative who is not as angry as h. about it.

24. Well, they love their mentally-defective wack-jobs. He's the most like Bush, according
to Dan Bartlett--and the thirty-percenter base is still clinging to Chimpy like fleas on a submerged dog. Could happen--but I doubt it. He's presently serving the useful role of diverting votes and attention away from Thompson and Romney, which will leave Rudy (and possibly McCain) to advance in NH.
