Today Man-or-Monkey slumped out of his cave to demand that Congress approve his request for an additional $42.3 billion in war-related spending. During his five-minute diatribe there was no mention of plans to provide any additional expenditures for poor, sick American children.

"Don’t worry; we can just put it on the national credit card,” wrote Dina Rasor for the Huffington Post, Sept. 28. “Until yesterday, that credit card, also known as the national debt, was hitting its legal ceiling. Unlike the rest of us who finally max out on our credit cards, the Federal government can just keep borrowing more.

"The Senate raised the debt ceiling from $8.965 trillion to $9.815 trillion. This is the fifth time the debt ceiling has been raised under the Bush administration and in just over six years, the Bush administration has raised the national debt by almost $4 trillion."

A trillion dollars is more than most people can comprehend but the money used for the war could provide much needed aid and assistance to the American people. The additional funds requested would bring the total cost of the Iraq War to $611 billion.

What else could the money buy? According to NPP, for the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:

With $300 billion the government could simply hand out $1,000 to every American or about $47 to every person on the planet. We could buy a computer for every American child or for fun, the government could send every man, woman and child in the U.S. a brand new iPod.
$300 billion would give each school $3 million or provide a $100,000 bonus for every teacher in the country.

The average college tuition is $5,100 in the U.S. With 14 million students enrolled, just $285 billion would buy them all a four-year degree.

We could pay for all the losses from Hurricane Katrina and still have at least $100 billion left over. We could also pay all the out-of-pocket health care costs for every American for a year or fill all of our tanks for 12 months.

There are about 800 million hungry people in the developing world. It costs about $43 to feed each person for a year. With $300 billion the U.S. could end world hunger for about eight years.


But noooooo, we've got to keep with the killing and maiming and creating all that "good will" in Muslim nations.

Thanks for the info (I'm not sure what a snotllama is)! We're doing well, thanks. Screech's second blood test confirmed an elevated calcium level, so we'll take him for x-rays on Friday and he'll probably have an ultrasound next week. Big :hug:s to you and my fuzzy pal Crook!

as can kidney disease and thyroid problems. Screech's other numbers were all in the normal range, so I don't know if she suspects that it could be either one of those. She said that it could also just be his normal calcium level. It's not super high, normal range ends at 10.something and in the second test, Sreech's was 11. I'm hoping it's nothing. He's not acting sick, so I'm trying to stay optimistic.

you should have pet insurance, definitely. You have been through alot with your kitties. Hope Screech will be ok.

did Screech ever had bloodwork done before to compare these results, like people, we have our bloodwork done, and they compare it to previous years to see if your levels have gone up or remained the same.

edited to add, she did a second blood test just to check his calcium level to see if it could have been a spurious count. The level was slightly lower in the second test but still elevated. He's not that much above normal, normal range ends at 10.8 (if I remember correctly) and Screech was at 11.

Oreo's been hiding the past week or so. You cat people know what that means. He used to be a muscular 16 pounds. The vet weighed him this morning and he was down to 11 and dehydrated. They're running a blood panel, but it doesn't look good.

He's Mr. catnapper's special lap kitty. They're the only males in the household, and they love to sprawl on the recliner together and watch ballgames.:cry:

Oreo doesn't seem to be suffering. He just lies there on his side. He doesn't respond when I call his name. He doesn't resist when I pick him up.

This is so unexpected. He's only 10 years old and has always been healthy as a horse.

I've been listening to the audio book "The Diana Chronicles", and just got to the part where Queen Eliz referred to her "annis horribilis". I won't be sorry to say goodbye to 2007.

Here's a prayer for Screech AND Oreo - I'm visualizing 110% great health for both of these kitties.

They closed the 15 fwy (very major freeway running between Las Vegas clear down to near the Mexican border (our vital freeway) just below me at the 79 South in Temecula, California, due to the Escondido/Fallbrook/San-Pasqual/Witch-Creek fires.

My kid's charter school is out of Julian, even though she goes to the Temecula site - they cancelled classes for today and tomorrow (she only goes two days per week, and we homeschool the rest of the time). They are having us work on our packets at home this week. People are having trouble getting to school due to the fires everywhere, and the air is terrible here.

L.T.'s (LaDanian Tomlinson's) may be in danger; they cancelled Charger practice I hear. They are using Qualcomm Stadium as an evacuation center (30-40 minutes south of me on the 15 fwy.).

My neighbor's hubby is out fighting the Silverado Canyon fire (bet you didn't know there was one, yep).

She's holding up, but not sleeping at night (she's the one who helped me rescue Mama Cat and her 11 kitties)(#1 baby is the great Dexter B., who is staring at me right now).

I've been through this on and off for nearly a half-century, now (all of my life).

When I was a teenager, the fire burned right up to the back of our house in San Clemente (the Fire Department used our house to fight it). There's always damage then, and we spent a month in a hotel (dang near killed each other) while repairs were being made.

Six years ago, we moved from the home that was in the sticks.

Every year, it seems to get worse (we are CLEARLY seeing great changes in the weather patterns out here).
