Latest Head-to-Head Matchups in DFA Pulse Poll: Edwards the Clear Winner
While Al Gore still dominates the DFA Pulse poll as a write-in candidate with nearly 30% of the vote, an amazing fact after over 65,000 votes have been counted, Edwards wins in every head-to-head match up and is the only candidate to do so. Here are the results (the DFA Pulse Poll uses run-off voting to enable these match-ups; numbers rounded):

Edwards v. Gore
61 - 39

Edwards v. Obama
59 - 41

Edwards v. Biden
88 - 12

Edwards v. Clinton
74 - 26

Edwards v. Dodd
91 - 9

Edwards v. Kucinich
66 - 33

Edwards v. Richardson
81 - 19

Edwards v. Gravel
91 - 9

Summary of other candidates (in order of strength of head-to-head matchups):

Obama defeates All but Edwards

Kucinich defeats All but Edwards and Obama

Gore defeats Dodd, Clinton, Richardson, Gravel and Biden
Gore is defeated by Kucinich, Edwards, Obama

Clinton defeats Dodd, Richardson, Gravel and Biden
Clinton is defeated by Edwards, Obama, Kucinich and Gore

Note: The DFA Pulse Poll requires users to register their email, name and address. Duplicate votes *are* checked for (even on write-ins). It considers rankings to perform the equivalent of an instant-run-off style election (something that doesn't really happen in the U.S.). While the head-to-head matchups are interesting, they show different results from the actual poll because the main poll results counts every candidate as running without run-offs. Still, they are a good measure of the strength of a candidate. I was surprised to see how strong of a candidate Edwards really is.

1. What exactly does this prove?
Besides that more Edwards supports happen to frequent that website and involve themselves in that particular organization?

2. Exactly what it sets out to--the feelings of those who visit the DFA site
Including perhaps the feelings of those so committed they will vote multiple times. It is what it is, right?

4. You can't vote multiple times.

3. If you look at the overall results, Edwards is third... but he's the strongest individual
It doesn't mean that more Edwards supporters go there and vote. If that were true, he'd be in first place overall.

5. They haven't updated that part of the site since yesterday morning
and there's been 15000+ more votes since then. Obama and Kucinich supporters have been on there in force today; the weekend seemed like Gore and Edwards supporters were busy. Wonder where Clinton's peeps are? Wish they'd update that part of the site at least once a day -- I like doing the toe to toe comparisons, myself.

6. Edwards has been keeping his 'campaign ad buys' to a minimum and yet.....
Edwards has been hitting the campaign trail hard and is the strongest General Election Candidate Democrats could nominate.

Going to be interesting as the Edwards campaign commercials hit the airways, and the gaps begin closing.
