I've been a Donnie McClurkin fan for a long time...
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 11:17 PM by MsKandice01
I'm an agnostic but I grew up with gospel music and honestly, I love it. It gives me a warm feeling in my gut that no other music gives me. Very little of it has to do with the words for me, it's more of the feeling I get from the music and the powerful voices. Like I said, it's something that I grew up with and it makes me feel at "home". However, from the first time I saw Donnie McClurkin over 10 years ago, I thought he was gay. I just always assumed he was gay and in the closet, just like many other black gospel musicians that I've encountered over the years. Unfortunately, black churches are not traditionally accepting of homosexuality.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm not surprised at all by his statements. He's acting like many other closeted gay men who are part of a community that frowns up homosexuality. He's overcompensating, just like Larry Craig, just like Mark Foley.

That's not to say that I'm supportive of his comments. I just think I would be surprised if he was a black gospel singer and said anything otherwise.

1. While you may like his music, don't you think this a bit
insensitive to our GBLT community? Despite your qualified support, it is still support for this man who is causing a great deal of pain through his bigoted statements.

Just a thought...

2. No, I do find it insensitive...
I really do. Even though I've liked his music for a long time, I do not support his comments or his attitude. I don't see myself buying another CD of his. I'm just saying that, looking at his background, I'm really not surprised.

3. Good gravy. What an interesting thesis that is.
I don't know the fellow from Adam. Never heard of him before this dust up.

Maybe the gay community should send him letters and post cards, imploring him to "Come out, come out, whereever you are!!!" It might get him to thinking.

He's quite sartorial, this fellow:
