Rep. Hoyer called Stark over the weekend, says apology was appropriate: "He didn’t sugar-coat it."

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/10/rep_stark_apologizes_for_sharp.html#more

<snip>

Stark, 75, returned to the House floor this morning and asked to be recognized.

"I want to apologize to, first of all, my colleagues, many of whom I’ve offended; the president, his family, to the troops … and I do apologize," the 18-term congressman said. "I think that we have a serious issue before us – the issue of providing medical care for children, the issue of what we do about a war that we’re divided about how to end.

"I hope that with this apology I will become as insignificant as I should be and that we can return to the issues that do divide us but that we can resolve in a better fashion."

Stark’s voice broke as he yielded back the balance of his time; the mostly empty chamber broke out in applause.

Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, who said he called Stark over the weekend, said the apology was appropriate: "He didn’t sugar-coat it."

1. Can we please replace Steny Hoyer.
Please.

Murtha would have brought more unity to the Congressional leadership (IMHO)

2. In the words of our revered criminal Vice President:
"Fuck yourself, Hoyer. And the rest of the Democratic leadership, too."

That is all.

6. I respectfully disagree. I believe the power elite both Repub and Dem
win and the people lose. It was our Dem leaders that told him to apologize. The hard thing to face is that "we" are insignificant, right now. That will last until we make ourselves significant again.

Lord knows what THAT takes at this point. I have an aching feeling it will be one hell of a long road back to a healthy democracy. The majority of Americans have no REAL representation.

Both sides are selling us out/have sold us out, with some exceptions.

4. Damn. This sucks.
I'm now convinced that the only thing that's holding the democratic party together is the '08 elections. After that's over, unless something drastic happens then this party is going to split into and angry spat between the progressives, and the DLC'ers.

7. In a way it probably was the best way to do it...Just say he is sorry
he offended and then make a statement about the children's health bill. This was such a distraction from the real business of the health bill. It is absolutely outrageous, that he had to apologize, but as I said it will now quiet the controversy down

I do hope tho that the next any one of the S.O.B. shitboaters say something about the democrats that they jump down their throat so fast they flatten them out. It is time we took the upper hand.

I think, Democrats are just letting the republicans go til next summer when they will start to turn loose. But if theY do that they don't deserve to win another election. "NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY."

You old timers remember that....from Typing 101.

8. Don't forget ...... Hoyer was NOT the first choice of Speaker Pelosi
Steny Hoyer, in my opinion, is perfectly welcome to go fuck himself with a knotty tree limb.

9. No, and many forget they were bitter rivals for minority leadership positions for yrs.
I was very concerned when Pelosi was named Speaker and Hoyer was elected Majority Leader.

They are very different "Democrats", and I was concerned that he would undermine her in her new role.

A Speaker needs a supportive Majority Leader of like mind to get shit done.
I'm afraid that Hoyer works at crosspurposes, while Pelosi is left to face the shitstorm of how that comes down.

I wonder if he ever got over their bitter, 2 yr battle for minority whip - her Murtha endorsement must have totally pissed him off too.

This is not a good working relationship, and it looks like others may be paying the price.
