Telling Pat Leahy to go fuck himself on the Senate Floor is bad form
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 01:56 PM by dave29
shooting someone in the face is bad form.
Outing a CIA NOC working on WMD is bad form.
Sending countless children to their deaths is bad form.
Politicizing the Justice Department is bad form.

I don't see anyone racing to censure, let alone impeach anyone on those matters. Nor was there ever any apologies.

4. Threatening the president's life is bad form, as Jesse Helms did in 1994.
Yet, he, just like Pol Pot Dickhead Cheney, got away with it.

IOKIYAR. It's OK . . . If You're A Republican.

Was it Andy Warhol or Andy Stephenson who said "Being a Republican is whatever you can get away with"?

6. He didn't do it while the Senate was in session. If Senator Leahy had said
from the floor, in session, "Mr. President...(of the Senate)" to which Cheney snarled "Go FUCK YOURSELF.." from the dais, and maybe sailed that big gavel at Leahy's head (well, he does like to fire without warning, doesn't he!)...now, that would certainly be bad form and censure-worthy!!!

Cheney's remark came during a picture taking session, the annual 'class pic' they take.

The Senate was not in session at the time, ergo, he was just behaving like a fucking asshole. As usual. Not censurable, though...

16. Bad form, yes. Censurable, no. He didn't violate any rules of the Senate.
Technically, they could convene the Senate at Fenway Park, if they wanted to or needed to.

The building is a venerated place, but that's custom/tradition. There's no rule of conduct in that building, absent an active session, unless we're talking about doing something illegal, and then you get into impeachment territory.

I know, I know...impeachment!! He's been in that territory already, sure, but not during that exchange with Leahy on the floor of the Senate.

41. Pete Stark has had a problem for YEARS with "shooting his mouth off"
And keep in mind, he wasn't censured. He apologized to avoid the House taking that up that measure, and he was encouraged to do so by fellow Democrats.

His heart is in the right place, but he's not a Freshman Rep. There are rules of conduct in the House, and he plainly broke them. There's serious work ahead, and our side isn't looking for continued distractions--that's why his feet were held to the fire: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2007/10/pelosi_rebukes_stark.html

Stark has had a tendency to utter outrageous comments in the past, so yesterday's inflammatory statement was actually not surprising to members on either side of the House aisle. In 2001 at a Ways and Means subcommittee hearing on welfare policy, he publicly ridiculed former Rep. J.C. Watts (R-Okla.). Noting his GOP leadership position at the time, Stark derided the "current Republican Conference chairman whose children were all born out of wedlock."

Watts had five children at the time, with only the first being out of wedlock.

In 1990, Stark said Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan, an African American, was "as close to being a disgrace to his race as anyone I've ever seen." And in 1991 Stark singled out his "Jewish colleagues" for blame for that year's Iraq war.

Stark is well aware of his record of outbursts. In June 2005, after the revelations that defense contractors purchased Rep. Duke Cunningham's home outside San Diego at a $700,000 mark-up, Stark took out an ad in some Capitol Hill publications mockingly offering his home for sale: "Attention Powerful Lobbyists! House for Sale by Influential Member of Congress. From recent practices by defense contractor lobbyists, it appears that you may be able to slip a cool million to a Member of Congress with little fear of ethics violations."

At the time he told The Sleuth -- back at our alma mater, Roll Call -- that Republicans needed to lighten up. (Subscription required.)

"Oftentimes my Republican colleagues don't respond to anything but ridicule. You can be serious with them and they don't pay any attention," he said.

Rest assured, the Republicans paid attention yesterday, as did Pelosi.

11. Oh yeah! That list could go on and on...
I am truly confounded as to why Rethugs can say and do the nastiest, ugliest things and get away with it. Meanwhile, if a Democrat even speaks the truth, much less make an impassioned judgment, the Thugs and MSM gasp and clutch their collective bosoms, collapse on a chaise lounge while fanning themselves, then leap up and demand an apology.

Seriously. How do they get away with this?

if the OP agreed that Stark's comments were also bad form. It would also be logical if Cheney had been officially on the floor, and the Senate had been in session. Real logic isn't a partisan affair.

22. are those the facts on the ground, Cali?
because we may be in agreement there. Or would our agreement just be a shared opinion? It's so confusing these semantic arguments over opinion and fact... and so frustrating watching our Congress become a series of tubes flowing down a toilet...

but I guess as long as they are showing proper etiquette, all is good.

right?

17. It's easier to show "spine" by attacking anti-Cheney voices like Moveon.org & Stark.
The DEM "leadership" shows some spine every now & then, but it's spine against voices OPPOSED to Bush, not Bush himself.

21. You know what? This bullshit dog and pony show that is Congress
WHO GIVES A SHIT WHAT ANYONE SAYS? WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

WHAT ARE THEY DOING? Nothing. They spend more time on bullshit verbage resolutions than they do stopping people dying. I'm tired of words. Do something to save this country. All this energy spent on words, words, word resolutions. Congress is awful good sticking their fingers up their ass. No wonder they have less respect than Bush according to polls.

End the war, restore habeas corpus, and save the constitution.

ENOUGH with the meaningless crap. America is trivializing it's way into the dustbin of history. At least no profanity was used in the ending of our country!
