Make a plan, perpare emergency kit, figure where to go, how to care for family, pets.
No matter where you live, a disaster could happen. If it does, you may get help but it is safest to assume you will be on your own. Get a kit together, water, food, medicine, pet food, kid food. Have important papers and pictures (family photos for instance) in 1 place to grab and go. Have a plan of where to go and how to get out of wherever you are (don't forget when you are at work, or at the store).

Public service announcement: It is safest to assume you will be on your own for some period of time. Others may help, assistance may come faster or slower, but prepare.

And realize that often things won't go as you planned.

And help each other.

end of announcement.

2. Best to assume and expect that no one, government or private individuals are going to do anything
for you.

I wouldn't expect anyone to lift one finger.

3. That's right. It's not a bad idea to have a kit in your car trunk
if you do a lot of driving.

4. Train your cats to come running to you when you offer treats.
I have done so with mine. They come right to me when I announce treats and shake the bag - any time of day. So I don't have to hunt for them in an emergency.

6. That's a good idea also. Mine come to clicking the lid of canned food can.
I don't have enough pet food stored, need to get a bag for storage.

7. In the house, mine came running to the squeak of the hinge on the cat
treat cupboard, lol. The apartment has squeakless cupboards so I have to call out louder and shake the bag more.

5. Have lived this way for years.
As awful as it sounds, you probably shouldn't tell others that you have prepared for disasters. In the past I have discussed disaster preparedness with others. What I most often heard was that if a disaster were to happen their plan was to come to my house. At some point you're going to either have to feed them or fight them. Not a pleasant thought.

Regards, Mugu
