Jackpot or Mistake? Man Sues Over $1.6M 'Jackpot'
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 07:19 PM by mahatmakanejeeves
In essence, what the casino is saying is, "When we said 'you won,' we didn't mean "you" or "won."

This is the technology that powers voting machines. Any questions?

New Mexico Indian Casino Says Slot Machine Malfunctioned; Refuses to Pay

For about an hour last August, Gary Hoffman was a very lucky man.

Hoffman was playing the nickel slot machines at the Sandia Resort and Casino on an Indian reservation in New Mexico when he appeared to hit the jackpot: the machine said he won nearly $1.6 million.

"I became ecstatic," he said.

But the ecstasy was short-lived. Hoffman says in a lawsuit filed earlier this year that Sandia refused to pay, claiming that the machine malfunctioned. Instead, he said, they gave him about $385 and a few free meals at the casino.

5. Nickel slots don't pay millions
The $385 is much more in line for a nickel jackpot. Even if they are progressive machines, the payout would only be in the single thousands. He won't, and should not win the lawsuit. It was a machine malfunction, and that does not mean this man deserves a million dollars. Payouts are shown on the machines, and if the machine malfunctions, as all machines are prone to do, he should only get what the payout schedule shows, and not a dime more!

10. I hope he at least ate $1.6 million worth of shrimp at the buffet
That would teach the casino a lesson.

11. It's very obviously a mistake
the machine says the maximum payout is $2,500.

EVERY machine I've ever played said the house is not responsible for machine malfunctions.

If the machine said the amount paid was more than $2,500, it was clearly a machine malfunction.
