Wednesday February 14, 2007

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) Joe Edwards, an artist who worked on the 1942 debut issue of Archie comics, has died. He was 85.

Edwards also created the character Li'l Jinx.

He died on February first at his Long Island home after years of treatment for heart problems, according to his son, Todd Edwards of North Babylon.

A Manhattan native, Edwards served in the Army during World War II, illustrating training manuals. While based in Italy, he drew animated cartoons warning of minefields around Naples.

Todd Edwards says his father always carried a sketch pad and would delight doctors and nurses with sketches drawn personally for them.

2. Well, I grew up reading the Archie comics
so that is sad news. Are the Archie comics still around, or are they much to tame for today's kids?

3. You can still get Archie comics
Check your local Walgreens pharmacy -- they usually have comics racks, and the Archie titles are pretty prevalent.
