Police: SUSPECT ADMITS VANDALIZING VETERAN'S GRAVE
By Ryan Korsgard

UPDATED: 6:27 pm CDT October 25, 2007

LIBERTY, Texas -- Wallace DeBlanc, 41, has admitted to vandalizing the grave of 22-year-old Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy Burris, officials told KPRC Local 2. Liberty police arrested DeBlanc Wednesday night. "It is believed that he did have a drug problem. He has a past history of drug arrests," Sgt. Sonny Hardy said.

Investigators said the stands sold for $1 to $2 each. Hardy said, "Once we started into it, we noticed a lot of property had been missing from the gravesite. That's what led us to that direction."

Burris was buried just two days before his grave was disturbed. The Marine lost his life while fighting in Iraq.

"Our family has never felt like this was a personal affront. We've never felt like it was something that was done because of the war," said Burris' mother, Karla Burris. She offered DeBlanc her family's forgiveness and prayers.

4. Sorry.
When this first happened, some of the locals in that town and others in Houston was betting 10 to 1 it was one of those liberal anti-war. They were so hoping that would be the case. They couldn't wait to stick their chest out on chron.com's comments board.

I was referring to the article itself.

5. Oh, okay. It's just like when in my town, a soldier's funeral was going to be
picketed. My son's school said it was anti-war protesters. It pissed me off to no end. It was Rev. Phelps, all about hating gays.

8. Really?
You don't think they'd love to have another talking point about how there is proof Democrats in general and anti war people in particular disrespect the sacrifice made by soldiers who are dying in this war?

I'm sure they were all heavily salivating at the prospect of being able to paint 70% of the people in this country as military hating demons who desecrated graves for fun.

10. Mr. DeBlanc and Ms. Burris both have my prayers.
That poor woman has lost her son. She's probably had enough of pain, strife, suffering and desperation and so therefore wishes Mr. DeBlanc only the best. It's a sentiment I share.
