Poll question: If your only choice is among Obama, Edwards, and Clinton - who do you chose?
I'd love for Al Gore or Dennis Kucinich to be our next president!

Reluctantly, I'm at a point where I'm ready to put my wishful thinking aside and look at the scenario pragmatically. I will be voting Democratic in next years General Election. With the M$M declaring Hillary Clinton as the front-runner, some are saying that the only way to catch her is for lower polling tier candidates to form a collective partnership of endorsements for either Edwards or Obama. Those endorsements would only be forthcoming after said candidates dropped out.

My thinking right now is to support Dennis and what he stands for as long as he is in it. Dennis unequivocally represents my views better then any other declared candidate! Realistically however, if it seems by next February or so that either Edwards or Obama have a good chance of over-taking Hillary, I may switch my efforts to help either 2nd place candidacy. My guess is Edwards has the best across-all-regions chance as the Hillary alternative. Just the opinion of one voter...

QUESTION: If the primary race ends up with only Obama, Edwards, and Clinton left standing; who would you support?

1. Obama, no question in my mind. However, I would still prefer somebody else.

2. I agree with you about kucinich being the best choice, but voting for edwards.
I wonder why they (kucinich and edwards) don't agree to combine? Kucinich could offer his support for edwards in return for edwards taking some strong positions which kucinich finds important. I know edwards can't live up in all ways, but kucinich could use his base as leverage. just a thought.

7. Kucinich may ponder endorsing Edwards/Obama sooner then later
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 10:48 AM by RiverStone
If it is not to be Dennis as Pres, I hope he aligns with Edwards soon enough in the primary process to make a difference. In reality, that may need to be very soon with many pundits saying an Iowa victory is critical to both the Edwards and Obama campaign.

The Iowa vote happens 1/3/08.

I wonder, if Dennis (like many of us) does NOT want Hillary as our nominee, it seems lending his support to Edwards (my choice) or secondly Obama would be a wise move. Of course, I have not the slightest clue who or if Kucinich would endorse if he drops out? I would support either Edwards or Obama, though my slight lean goes to Edwards. I also think there is an outside chance Al Gore will also endorse Edwards, if he endorses anyone.

8. I think Edwards would fare better in the general than Obama, and I also think Edwards has more
fight inside. I do like some of obama's positions, jsut don't see him bringing down the republicans, as needs doing.

5. Kucinich is the best choice for me, but I just don't see him getting the nomination.
So, I'm supporting John Edwards.

Hillary has too many ties to lobbyists and corporations, and I think they've been responsible for a lot of manipulation politically over the past 7 years especially, and we can all see what that's done for America.

Barack doesn't think Bush and Cheney have done anything serious enough for impeachment, which makes me question his ethics, and now his campaign's continued support of an anti-gay person indicates to me Barack is a hypocrite as well. How can a black man, who should be especially sensitive to discrimination, allow the discrimination of another group?

I will vote for John, Dennis, or Hillary if they get the nomination, but I will NOT vote for Barack until he takes steps to deal with the anti-gay issue. At that point, I would consider him again, although the anti-impeachment comment bothers me a great deal, and I want to make sure we don't wind up with another unitary executive in office.

17. Who was the anti-gay appointment your referring too?
I also caught the tail end of a discussion on AAR regarding some anti-gay, anti-women appointment being debated on The Hill. Who is this person and did he/she get enough votes?

Thanks :hi:

18. Two different things.
Judge Leslie Southwick is anti-gay and a bigot, and he just got appointed.

Anti-Gay Gospel Singer Donnie McClurkin is appearing at Barack's campaign stops.

So, there are two separate, but related, issues here. Do a search at DU and you will find lots of threads on both topics. :)

19. Add to that his (lack of a stand) on impeachment...
Seems thats 3 good reasons why Barack should not be our nominee. It feels like with above actions, he is pandering to the right - all may lead to falling into a solid 3rd place position very soon.

Too bad, because his rhetoric and passion originally seemed very promising. Of course, I'd still vote for him if he was the nominee. Now I see Edwards as the clear Hillary alternative! And hope he is! DK or Al will not be Pres in 08 - reluctantly, I've accepted that.

Thanks for the names - appreciate it. :hi:

...my first choice is Gore and/or Kucinich, and I'll support DK as long as he's in. I don't dislike Hillary or Obama, but if my choice came down to the "top 3," I'll go with Edwards.

13. If you are going to make a difference, it has to be before next Feb....
Iowa will hold its caucus Jan 4, then N.H., Nev, S.C., and Super Tues on Feb 5. Not to mention the early primaries of Florida and Michigan.

To make a difference, you would have to shift allegiance before the end of this year.

16. Shift allegiance before the New Year?
Taking that line of reasoning, would it not make sense for folks to collectively line up support for a Hillary alternative (lets say Edwards) before the Iowa caucus?

To date, I have not heard a peep out of any of the other campaigns on dropping out or endorsements. Of course, not just Kucinich - but Biden, Dodd, Richardson etc. We are taking a lot of shifting needs to happen in the next 60 days.

I don't disagree with you, it just seems that if the lower tier folks do NOT want Hillary as the nominee, changes need to happen and fast!

23. Would you say the same to all that voted for Nader in 2000?
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 03:19 PM by RiverStone
If Nader folks saw the BIGGER picture and voted for Gore, even a little reluctantly...we know the result would have not been 8 disastrous years of Shrub..

I don't see my vote as an absolute. Rarely in life do we get everything we want.

I can't fathom why more folks don't see DK as the Hillary alternative, for he represents true DEM positions better than anyone, IMHO - and he at least walks his talk on impeachment.

Though I can't change the voting public or anybody for that matter.

If DK is not our nominee, I will vote for any Democrat who will beat any rethug in the general. I do not see this as compromising my vote, I do see it as having a say to at least minimize the damage another rethug administration would do to our country. Already, it will take a generation or more to clean up Shrub's mess.

25. The Point Is, It's MY Vote, and I Don't Take it Lightly.
In the primaries, we who endorse Dennis Kucinich are told that our vote is a waste, and doesn't matter. In the general, if Dennis isn't the nominee, we will be told that if we don't vote for the Dem nominee, that we are voting for the Republicans. Amazing how a single vote can go from inconsequential to treasonous so quickly.

I have ten thousand times more respect for someone who voted for Nader because they honestly believed in him as a candidate, than someone who will vote for Clinton, or Obama, or Edwards because they're "the lesser of two evils". It's that kind of thinking that put us in the mess we are in today: people not holding their officials accountable; willing to "settle" for inadequate representation because of the threat from the "other side".

I have news for you: Clinton, Obama, et al ARE the "other side". They represent the status quo, business as usual mindset that will keep enriching corporate executives and disenfranchising middle and lower-class Americans until there is open warfare in the streets.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who doesn't vote for Kucinich, or a theoretical other progressive candidate, is voting for a Republican.

Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 04:35 PM by RiverStone
As a fellow Kucinich supporter, we don't need to elaborate why DK is the only Dem free from all that corporate pandering bullshit.

Where our paths may differ is I'm still convinced that the worst DEM we could nominate (Hillary) is still better then the best the rethugs could nomination (they are all the fuck the same).

Yep, HRC is rethug-lite but I do see one fundamental difference. That if you want a SCOTUS that goes farther right, then vote rethug. Even Hillary would nominate a judge not beholden to the RW wackos.

That is the MAIN difference - who knows, that may be more apparent after another 6 months of RW propaganda. You see no diff between the two - I see a SCOTUS nominee that will be different, depending on who sits in the White House.

24. Shit, John Edwards will kick any republicans ass - bitch-slap them badly!
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 03:43 PM by LaPera
-Hillary, far, far too many negatives....easy to understand why the republican want her and constantly trash Edwards even though Edwards is supposedly so far behind Hillary in the polls, she has so much money, and the media pushing her in the polls everyday and the republicans and moderates, it'll be tough! But, wait until the votes are actually casted, Edwards will be running neck and neck with the moderate, DLC HRC.....

Support John Edwards.... http://johnedwards.com/splash/

Expect John Edwards to pull out the nomination....I expect when the voting starts Obama will come in second or third in the early primaries and begin to fade (will he be picked up as a VP who knows, he'll have the bucks & a strong voting block) Hillary and Edwards will fight for states and Hillary will win states early,....but she will begin to fade as well - Hillary & Clinton fatigue, maybe?....for some reason not as many who polled all these past months will seem to be voting for her, not surprising.... she's far too moderate and the same old thing we've seen for the past 30 years except that she's a woman....The republicans and their media will be pushing hard for her in the primaries.... and that can be the a big difference in her favor....However, Edwards is tough, a fighter, he has an excellent progressive platform and if he has the money to be able to compete with Hillary...he'll blow right on by her and win the nomination....Which the republicans do not want to see.

I wish it would be Edwards/Kucinich....or even Edwards/Clark....Edwards/Obama?

There will be the usual republican sabotage, lies, distortions, smears, swift boating, republican voting manipulations, smokescreens keeping us focused elsewhere by the republicans anything to keep it close so their dirty tricks can slide them into keeping their fascism moving right along for at least another four years....But if Edwards is a tough and a fighter as I believe him to be.....He'll do very well!

Of course if Gore enters the race....EVERYTHING changes in Gore's favor! NO question about it.

Support John Edwards.... http://johnedwards.com/splash / Unfortunately, money will make the difference!
