Lou Dobbs last night was arguing with someone from the Progressive Policy Institute
and the guy did not sound like any progressive I've ever talked too. Certain did not represent my ideas and I consider myself progressive and liberal. Anyway, I just looked them up and here is the link to their "About" page on their website. Free-falling free-traders, lining their pockets one nation at a time.

http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=87&subsecID=205&contentID=896

It is .....SUPRISE!!!!!....a Third Way think tank chaired by Bill & Hillary's buddy, Al From, and here's how they describe themselves:

snip...

PPI's mission arises from the belief that America is ill-served by an obsolete left-right debate that is out of step with the powerful forces re-shaping our society and economy. The Institute advocates a philosophy that adapts the progressive tradition in American politics to the realities of the Information Age and points to a "third way" beyond the liberal impulse to defend the bureaucratic status quo and the conservative bid to simply dismantle government. The Institute envisions government as society's servant, not its master -- as a catalyst for a broader civic enterprise controlled by and responsive to the needs of citizens and the communities where they live and work.

The Institute's work rests on three ideals: equal opportunity, mutual responsibility, and self-governing citizens and communities. Building on these cornerstone principles, our work advances five key strategies to equip Americans to confront the challenges of the Information Age:

-Restoring the American Dream by accelerating economic growth, expanding opportunity, and enhancing security.

-Reconstructing our social order by strengthening families, attacking crime, and empowering the urban poor.

-Renewing our democracy by challenging the special interests and returning power to citizens and local institutions.

-Defending our common civic ground by affirming the spirit of tolerance and the shared principles that unite us as Americans.

-Confronting global disorder by building enduring new international structures of economic and political freedom.

snip.

1. So that's where that shit came from!
This guy I used to work with was visiting my workplace the other day and we were sitting down shooting the breeze for a few minutes. We got into politics (he's a right-winger) and got to talking about Hillary. He said she claimed in a speech or an interview the other day that she's a "progressive." Got my blood to boiling. I told him she is about as progressive as his buddy Bush and changed the subject. I stayed pissed about that for a couple of days thereafter.

2. Yup...
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 11:51 AM by Hell Hath No Fury
they are "progressive" like I am Salma Hayak. :eyes: They did the Lakoff thing and have "reframed" old school Republican as now "progressive". Just like "liberal" is now "far left", and "centrist" is GOP in wolf's clothing.

Another reason I despise those shitbags.

On edit: Isn't PPI Marshall "I love the PNAC" Whitman's baby??

3. It always comes down to how you see things
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/progress

Many people can see progress many different ways, just like beauty. Language can be a very confining aspect to our lives in my mind. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. One man's progress is another man's regression.

The problem is that we live in an increasingly universal, one-size-fits-all-world, and actual reality isn't like that. Then again, my definition of reality isn't like that. To those who want that type of world, it is reality. Round and round we go...

5. PPI has always been associated with the DLC.
It's just a DLC equivalent to the Economic Policy Institute or the Center for Budget & Policy Priorities.
