Blackwater Wants To Build Live Fire Facility In Middle Of San Diego Fire Zone

As I am posting this, the eastern perimeter of the Harris Fire coincides exactly with the edge of the property Blackwater wants to build on. The west side (seen as the foreground in the photo above) probably has already burned, but the flat valley, which is a former cow and chicken ranch, and is the location where Blackwater wants to build "Blackwater West") is probably serving as a firebreak and the hills in the background have most likely not burned at this point. As of today (Friday 10/26) the Harris Fire has burned 84,300 acres and is 20 percent contained. 1,500 homes are still threatened.

"While the company is hoping to become a major part of the community with its giant military-style facility, one activist told the Huffington Post that Blackwater has not yet announced any donations to relief efforts or supplied resources to assist firefighting activities in the area.

"This is a simple demonstration that these people are interested in their own greed and have no concern for the local community," said Rick Jacobs who heads up the Courage Campaign, a group that is assisting local residents who are organizing to fight construction of the Blackwater facility.

Blackwater staff did not answer multiple phone calls requesting comment on whether or not they had donated to relief efforts or assisted firefighting in the area."

1. I guess they think their political bribes were sufficient.

It's not like the opinions of the residents count.

On edit: Harris fire? The one that burned into Mexico? Why that's close to the border. Handy route for foreign mercenaries to enter.

2. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Blackwater had started that fire themselves.

4. Surprised? No.
But the Santa Ana seriously didn't need their help. It really is a delusion to place your hope that all this was man made and, therefore, possibly something man could control. The Santa Ana rules us, not the other way around.

Now, if you'd like to get involved in community planning and zoning...and forcing architects and homeowners to design and build for the realities of climate change, GO FOR IT!

10. The disaster aspect of it is man-made. Fire lives in this region. This is actually 1,800
individual disasters, of people losing property. There will always be fires here and that's not a disaster in itself. The disaster is the property that was destroyed.

8. Still, their silence and absence this week is a clear indication that they don't care about
the community at all. They could have taken this as a golden opportunity to build up some good will towards them by helping out however they could have - they could have put down their guns and picked up a few shovels and buckets - or at the very least made donations. But it's obvious now that they don't care about the community that they want to become a part of.

7. Yes that's the same fire. I'm sure Blackwater would like to use the people entering illegally
in that area for target practice.

3. Blackwater can go fuck themselves.
I live about an hour and a half from the site they want to build on. I'd seriously join that campaign if I knew where to sign up.
