Sen. Chris Dodd Targets 'Gay Marriage' Issue
Democratic presidential hopeful Chris Dodd told high school students Wednesday that people debating gay marriage should ask themselves just one question: What would you do if your child were gay? Dodd said anyone who would deny a gay child the right to be happy isn't being honest.
"We ought to be able to have these loving relationships," the Connecticut senator said.
Dodd, the father of 2-year-old and 5-year-old girls, said his daughters could grow up to be lesbians and that he hopes they would have the opportunity to enjoy marriage-like rights.
"They may grow up as a different sexual orientation than their parents," he said. "How would I want my child to be treated if they were of a different sexual orientation?"

Senator Dodd's Floor Speech on Ending Iraq War

This afternoon Senator Chris Dodd gave a powerful speech calling for the Senate to pass the Feingold-Reid-Dodd amendment, which would set a hard deadline for redeploying all US troops within the next year. While the entire speech stands as a searing argument for standing up to the President and ending the war in Iraq, Senator Dodd's close really hits home for me.
Mr. President, the Feingold-Reid-Dodd amendment does just that—it does what the Iraqi people and the American people want, and it does it in responsible ways. This legislation mandates that the redeployment of US forces should begin within a 120 days and must be completed within a year. And simultaneous to this redeployment, this legislation calls for continued counter-terrorism operations and the training and equipping of reliable and accountable Iraqi security forces to take over the responsibility of safeguarding Iraq’s population. It is up to us to change the President’s failed course in Iraq and to hold the President and the Iraqi Government accountable. It is up to us to mandate a change in direction, to begin to responsibly bring our troops home, to continue to help the Iraqis battle terrorists, and train and equip reliable Iraqi security forces, so that Iraqis can police their own country and decide on their own future. We cannot afford another day of escalation. The price our nation has paid, and the price our men and women in uniform have paid is too high for a failed policy—a policy that has not succeeded, because it cannot succeed. I urge my colleagues to support the Reid-Feingold-Dodd amendment.
Senator Dodd is calling for his colleagues stop using half measures when dealing with the most important issue facing our country. He's right: it's time for the Senate to stand up and end the war.
