What happened to sacrifice ?
All this crap going on and so very few really care or even know .

General strike , we'll see . People gave up alot during WW II but then this is not really the same , it's not a war it's an abomination and occupation .

What really burns me is people continue to shop for crap daily and nothing ever enters their minds what the effect of their actions do and what they project in this dummed down society , hope anyone shopping feels it's worth it and perhaps someday the shame of it all will sink in . Enjoy the crap .

2. People had a common cause back in those days. Today, it's every man for himself.
Laissez-faire capitalism means, by definition, there will be winners and losers, and that everyone is potentially a competitor. It's hard to justify cut-throat economic competition but decry cut-throat social competition--they are two sides of the same coin.

3. I am so fed up with all these so called people who are Americans.
They drive foreign cars.

They shop at Wal-Mart.

They don't recycle.

They don't conserve energy.

They have children, and expect others to raise them.

They put themselves first, and only get upset or involved when they are impacted.

Typical of America today.

And it's a shame. So many of our ancestors fought and gave their lives so we could have a better life than they did, and we've thrown it all away.

Buy American - support American companies - vote for CHANGE IN GOVERNMENT.

14. The problem is, the Democratic party has become the "As Long as *MY* Ox isn't being gored!" party...
For example, labor has been jetissoned from the groups Democrats give a damn about.

John Kerry had to "borrow" some USA made SUVs for his entourage when he visited Michigan in 2004, for example. The foreign-made vehicles his entourage used in every other state belonged to his wife, he explained...:eyes:

4. Shopping is so much more fun
and, as Americans, our priorities are all about having fun. We are a country of Marie Antoinettes. We'll eat cake at the expense of our standing in the world community, at the expense of our national debt (Hey, we all live on credit anyway so who cares?)

Didn't work out so well in the end for dear Marie.

8. ".....We are a country of Marie Antoinettes......."
Pretty much sums it all up.

One of my assistants, while a bright young woman with a promising employment future, sees nothing whatsoever wrong with people who buy giant subwoofers for their cars and drive around residential neighborhoods all night long waking people up by playing music as loudly as possible. She proudly does it herself and thinks I'm wierd for disliking it.

Nobody has any sense of responsibility to the community anymore. It is indeed all about ME and MY OWN PLEASURE for most Americans.

Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 11:27 AM by madokie
the rich won't have to suffer any of the consquences of this carnage and misguided folly we are on. If it was being paid on todays dollar they, the riches taxes would have to go up but thats not going to happen, and until it does we'll just be merrily going about our way. sad but true imo

6. There have always been those who talk of "sacrifice"...
and then there are those who are willing to truly make a sacrifice for the betterment of the nation.

We are seeing the newest version of this oddity with the loudest calling for sacrifice not being willing to allow sacrifices of their own. They have no problem calling for or seeing the sacrifices of others, but when it comes close to home, they have a thousand excuses why sacrifice is not for them.

Back during the Civil War, Lincoln was accused of failure to be willing to sacrifice his son if need be. Robert Lincoln went into the Army, basically on his own accord. Lincoln stood on the defenses of Washington and saw just how close the Confederates had gotten, and drew a few rounds in his direction as well. TR and FDR had family members in WWII on active duty....you don't see that much anymore. Do you think Sean Hannity is going to rush through Manhattan to get to a recruiter, (I think he is one of the 'younger' Chickenhawks).

These people have the notion that sacrifice is for someone else. It is a sad state of affairs.

12. Yes, it had it's last gasp with Jimmy Carter
When the grandfathers of this bunch took over in 80 they threw sacrifice out the window. All except for the little people and they didn't matter to them anyway.

18. MATERIALISM happened.
When it came to war, Bush said go and shop and boost the economy. Keep up with the Joneses because you know the gap between the richest and poorest just kept growing bigger.
