A former U.S. soldier allegedly injured by Omar Khadr in Afghanistan says he wants the Toronto native to stay in Guantanamo prison.

Sgt. (Ret'd) Layne Morris claims Khadr threw the grenade that left him partially blind during a 2002 firefight.

"I'm blind in one eye, but I'm in pretty good health, all things considered," he told CTV's The Verdict Monday from Salt Lake City, Utah.

He said soldiers had surrounded a compound filled with slain enemy combatants, when someone opened fire and threw a grenade.

Morris acknowledged he did not see Khadr, who was 15 at the time, actually shoot a gun or throw the grenade that injured him.

But he alleged that Khadr was responsible, simply because he was the only one still alive inside the compound.
