Dear Madam Speaker,
I was happy to sit in my driveway to listen to you being interviewed on "All Things Considered" today. Imagine my consternation when I considered your answer to the opening question:
Robert Siegel: When I interviewed you at the beginning of January, you said the following: "The war in Iraq is the biggest ethical challenge facing America." It's nearly 10 months later. Would you concede that now, whether you like it or not, President Bush is going to get the Iraq policy he wants through the end of his presidency?

Nancy Pelosi: President Bush is going to get a policy that is very destructive to the security of our country, that is destabilizing in the Middle East, and is undermining our military capability, unfortunately. What President Bush has done is taken our nation on a course that is a catastrophic mistake. It's hard to exaggerate. I mean, you could never exaggerate the extent of the damage he has done to our reputation in the world and the capability of our military.

That being the case Madam Speaker, or should I say My Damn Speaker, please explain to me and the rest of my fellow citizens why Impeachment is off the table?

I won't begin to address the rest of your comments, which I recommend everyone read or listen to the rest as I found it robust exercise to my vascular system.

It occurred to me that you have no clue as to how much real power you have. You have committees with long outstanding unanswered subpoenas, why has anything moved in the House while this is so?

Will you please either stand up or stand aside?

-Hoot

why Impeachment is off the table?

A better question is what happened to the table?

Why is the Democratic majority consigned to eating scraps on the floor?

What kind of hold does Bush** have on you?

It is clear that they are genuinely afraid of him.

She and the rest of Congress are under the threat of another Reichstag Fi^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H attack by terrorists giving Bush**ler a pretext to invoke all of those executive orders and complete the transition to hard fascism.

Her words, not ours.

Her failure to object/accuse/impeach is complicity -- approval -- exoneration for a war criminal regime that she herself claims erodes our safety each and every day.

Would that someone this deluded could have the grace to stand aside.

She MUST be pushed. Keep screaming patriots. The damn could break at any time.

. . .she could go down in history as the most notorious woman in American politics.

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2007/07/31/pelosi/">Pelosi: It's about the war
Salon.com
War Room
Tuesday, July 31, 2007

. . .But she said that if she weren't the speaker and weren't in Congress, she'd "probably be advocating" Bush's impeachment herself. . .

So, in her role as one of "We the People" she would be calling for impeachment, but for some inexplicable reason she has concluded that her role as a Representative of the People somehow precludes her from advocating impeachment? (Even though an overwhelming 60% of her district voted for Proposition J -- A call to impeach Bush/Cheney?) As "the http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/01/05/MNGUVNDH0V1.DTL&type=politics">the most powerful woman ever in American politics, second in the line of succession to the presidency," she chooses to abuse her power to block the enforcement of the Constitution through impeachment?

People who violate the law don't destroy our legal system. Law enforcement agencies and courts exist to deal with them. Only corrupt officials within the executive or judiciary can break the system.

Corrupt officials can break the system, but they can't destroy it either because we gave the legislative branch the duty, and the power, to impeach and remove them. The power to impeach is of absolute necessity to maintaining the integrity of our government. It is our ultimate trump card -- and our ultimate defense. It is the means by which we enforce our sovereign authority over the officials we "hire" to serve us.

In the end, it is only the failure of the men and women we charge with removing officiuals who pose a threat that can destory our constitutional democracy. We can point the finger at the torturers, we can point the finger at the press, we can point the finger at the Americans who have lost hope and opted out, but ultimately the buck stops with Pelosi.

As painful as the truth may be, Pelosi's abuse of power to keep impeachment "off the table" is the fatal blow. Bushncheney are violating our common contract, but it is Pelosi's refusal to respond that is allowing "Government of the people, by the people, for the people" to "perish from the earth."

As long as there are people willing to fight, there is hope of resurrection, but if Pelosi is able to enforce her "off the table" edict through the end of the 110th Congress, we "could never exaggerate the extent of the damage."

you would need 18 republican Senators to impeach. as the far as the war goes bush could take money from any program to fight the war, Why bad mouth Democrats. Remember 2/3 majority to impeach, Republicans don't commit suicide, look at John Dean, John McCain and Jim Hightower, and a few others. 53. Only if people hold to that false meme of "impossible"
You need zero repubs to impeach. No one is asking Madame Squeaker to guarantee removal at a Senate trial. Such a defeatist concern is above her pay grade. That's why the founders created 2 stages -- accusation/impeachment then trial/removal.

And GOP Senators may not see it as "committing suicide" to cut loose the biggest drag on their party's electoral prospects ever.

In fact, they've rejected bushcheney criminality before.

All that is necessary is to force them to do it again.

They have the power to steal our votes, to do recess appointments, veto bills and they KNOW for sure that "Impeachment is Not Going To Touch That Nasty old Table!"

So, without even a whimper, not even a bully cry, not a sound that even looks like a move in the direction of anything that would make the Boy King upset, we go down without a VOICE!
