Well, at least Fred Phelps got knocked down.
He isn't worried - he is sure they can win on appeal.

He might just make it, too.

It's awful when someone feels like it is their God Given duty to harrass family members at funerals. Before he was pickiting soldiers he was picketing gay funerals (or funerals for gays that died of AIDS)

Some day one of the bikers that go to those funerals to protect the funeralees is going to make mush out of Phelps.

It's a uncharitable thing to say, but I hope they beat the shit of him.

4. As repulsive as phelps is, he has a first amendment right
the same as Code Pink or anyone else.

However if the bikers beat the snot out of him, that'd be OK too.

5. You're right, he does have a First Amendment right to be obnoxious
However, this case was based on harassment and intentional infliction of emotional harm, that's what got the judgment against him and his family.
