Burger King jumps on torture bandwagon with disgusting new TV ad.
I just saw the ad out the corner of my eye, so I'm not real sure of the product Burger King is pushing. But here is a rough synopsis:

Two women are hiring a hit-man.

Hit-man asks: Should I whack him quick and painless or take it slow with pain?

Woman thinks a second, then replies: Take it slow.

Anyone else see this yet? It ran during the 10AM repeat of last night's Daily Show. Maybe I missed a key word or phrase, but the overall effect seemed sinister.

1. Isn't eating at Burger King already torture enough?
I think I'd rather be waterboarded than have a Bacon Cheese Whopper shoved in my mouth.

That uses a mafia inference to sell their Italian chicken. AS a poster above said. Eating their food is tantamount to torture.

6. I haven't seen it.
It wouldn't surprise me. Pushing the populace to
accept torture through the media WILL have adverse
effects on us as a nation. Violent crimes will seem
less violent, especially if some think the victim
'deserved' it. The probable emergence of vigilante
groups (like the minutemen), the possibility of
American becoming a mafia-esque society is quite real.

Boy - I am such a bundle os sunshine this morning.

7. burger king is reaching...
...has been for years; the food is so terrible that they can't just sell it for what it is, so they have to overdo it in the advert department. IMO, the burger king advert people have been sick puppies for quite some time; my mom boycotted them way back when they did the overtly sexual commercial with the girl riding the mechanical bull-- but this does push it over the edge; hope I never see the commercial.

Get a grip.

Its advertising a new roast beef sandwich on buttery bread, and the women are mad because its so good it will make them fat. So they want the King whacked, and hire a mafia hitman. Because the sandwich is SOOOO good, they decide tell the hitman to whack him slow and painfully.

Its hysterical.
And you have 0 sense of humor.

9. come on.
The fact that anyone finds it funny is proof positive that American media HAS made us okay with both open references to tortures and with gross stereotypes. Why all the sudden has BK decided to go with this "Mafia" theme that degredates the Italian culture? What does that have to do with selling burgers? And why is referencing torture and displaying negative and false stereotypes okay just because the ad was funny?

The Italian Chicken Sandwich.
Made the same way since 1985.
You got a problem with that?

You haven't seen the above BK commercial for their chicken parm sandwich? Then you haven't been paying attention, and are just a bandwagon complainer.

39. I think your concept of "a while"
and mine are different. The Italian Chicken commercial has just started playing around my area within the past three or four weeks, and since the commercial from the OP is only the second mafia-themed commercial that BK has run (that I've seen, anyway), I'd say that they're both relatively new, and since the past several BK commercials have featured completely different themes, it seemed like a rather abrupt switch to me. Hence the "suddenly."

But if I'm wrong, please do forgive me for not devoting enough attention to the world of fast-food chain commercials. I shall now take my bandwagon ass elsewhere.

I'd rather have a well developed sense of decency than an overdeveloped and slightly peculiar sense of humour.

Why do people keep putting this "Your sense of humour's crap" thing around? Why should any of the rest of us care what people like you think of something as trivial as our sense of humour? It's a strange world we're living in when people not laughing at "jokes" means there's something wrong with them and not the joke. So, what, we've all got some sort of "responsibility" to find the same things funny that you do, now?

Maybe there are two versions, but I don't understand why a corporation that regularly fattens up people like cattle for slaughter would point out that particular negative element to their product.

People are talking about it, right? Some good, some bad, but it's being talked about. (Personally, I'd pay to see Plastic Puss take a nap with the fishes.)

A little over ten years ago, Chevrolet ran an ad (for the Beretta, I think) that had a really, truly, totally and disgustingly yuppified couple extoling the virtues of the car. The husband recounted all the facts about the engine, the interior, the exterior, the built-in cupholders, and all that rot. Then they had the wife say, "It looks good in the driveway, and that's important to me."

That one, I found offensive to the max.

Apparently, others did too. I never saw it again.

Perhaps they're scheduling "HitMoms" only in test markets to gauge its reception.

I find it kinda funny myself, that king dude creepy as hell, I hope he gets whacked.

And speaking of people being tight asses over an ad. I remember that commercial almost a couple years ago for the new Corvette. Their was a kid dreaming about about being behind the wheel of it, and its litterally flying through the air, it was a pretty cool commercial overall. And then some "concerned" parents bitched and complained that it "provokes" underaged driving. Right... if they teach their kids not to try to drive off in their car, it probablt wouldn't happen anyways.

Fuckin safety nannies :eyes:
