My dad's (a Goldwater Republican) letter to Dianne Feinstein regarding Mukasey

This is an e-mail my dad, a registered Republican, sent to Dianne Feinstein:

Dear Senator Feinstein,

I heard today that you have taken the position of supporting Michael Mukasey's nomination for Attorney General in spite of his unwillingness to declare "water boarding" unconstitutional. I hope you will reconsider your position. It could be politically suicidal.

In my opinion, we have no need for an Attorney General who will continue to support the Bush Administration's shredding of the constitutional rights of Americans. Having stood duty in Operation Big Switch in Korea, I am aware that our standards for the treatment of prisoners, along with other signatories of the Geneva Conventions, is higher than those of nations with little desire to follow a moral code. I urge you to vote only for a candidate who is both less evasive than Alberto Gonzales and more committed to the independence of the Department of Justice than the present candidate has shown himself to be in his appearance before the Senate.

Shame on you for announcing that you will be voting to confirm
Michael Mukasey.

Have you no understanding what torture is? How can you justify
continuing to offer cover for our President as he continues to shred
the constitution?

Please remember your vote before becoming sanctimonious when our
brave soldiers are subjected to torture in the future. You will have
no one to blame except yourself.

I am so looking forward to casting a vote against you should you run
for reelection.

I'm afraid Feinstein's head is in the ozone. She can't see us below for the clouds around her head.

Maybe Congress is such a complex thing that little earthlings like us can't understand. Maybe they have to toss the Constitution out the window to save it.

Maybe she has personal interests that won't allow her to hear us.

The less they listen, the deeper this hole gets.
