Glenn Beck Re-Signs Radio Contract For $50 Mil
Glenn Beck Re-Signs Radio Contract For $50 Mil

On his daily radio talk show, Glenn Beck portrays himself as an average guy, a recovering alcoholic and a comedian who regularly injects humor into his conservative politics.

This week he can add another description: very wealthy.
Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications, is expected to announce today that it is extending Mr. Beck's contract. Two sources with knowledge of the deal said it was valued at $50 million over five years, through a combination of salary and profit-sharing from syndication.

In signing the deal, Mr. Beck, 43, becomes the newest -- and youngest -- entrant into an exclusive club of highly compensated radio stars. The new contract would make Mr. Beck the third highest-paid talk radio host, surpassed only by Rush Limbaugh, the most popular terrestrial talker for two decades and whose show is also syndicated by Premiere, and Sean Hannity, whose Citadel Broadcasting show is routinely ranked second.

The salaries apparently mirror Arbitron's radio audience measurements, which show that Mr. Beck is the third most popular radio host in the advertiser-friendly 25- to 54-year-old demographic.

3. This just reasserts my belief, mostly learned through experience,
that radio no longer rewards the talented or creative.

4. BECK IS 43!!!
That's the only shocker in this story. I thought he was A LOT older than that.

Which begs the question: Why isn't this young, able-bodied man in Iraq, fighting for those 'values' of his?

11. The Army's current
cut off age is 42. There is no doubt that the Army would waver that one year for such an outstanding and brave patriot. Unless, of course he has other priorities, like talking war sted doing war.

17. Has he been 43 since the war began?
Actually, I just answered my own question: He probably has been saying he's 43 since he found out the cut-off was 42!!!

13. I wonder how much he gets for his TV show.
I guess that he has enough listeners & viewers to garner advertisers that feel it
is worth their money to place their ads on radio & tv. This is how the people that pay him
make money over the amount of his salary. Wow! $10 Million a year for this Ass Clown!

15. So weird
Everyone talks about how he's worth "X" amount because he brings in the viewers. Personally, I switch stations (or channels on t.v.) as soon as commercials start. So I rarely listen to or watch commercials. And yet our whole system of paying "stars" is based on the viewership of the ads, which is a virtually unmeasurable entity.

But whatever. Hope he gives a lot to charity. That's the only worth I can see coming of this.

pool of sadness and disgust, but, as you probably know, the senate and house j/cs made the next step in contempt proceedings for a number of former bush weenies-Mier, Bolten, and Rove, for starters.

Beck doesn't know it yet, but if you listened to the hearing today, the new 20--30 year old generation was speaking with a number of voices, all positive, all concerned with an "us" world, not a "you or me" world. Their powerful, clear voices made it abundantly plain that people like Beck are a dying breed, soon gone and then a generation with less of that sort of influence.

The lockstep performance of evangelical christians is no longer. The schisms are widening. The less radfringe elements no longer wish to be allied with the certified freeper types. Even the fundies are breaking up into disparate groups. As one leader of twelve thousand churches put it--we're still conservatives and believe in the bible; we're just not mad about it. These people are stepping back from the brink and that brinkmanship that is the author of hate and division.

There have been even more developments over the last few days that pointedly indicate a decision to pay this nasty purveyor of shabby values such bread is going to lose them a bundle.

Makes me wish I were forty years younger, so I could be at the center of changing the world...selfish me...

22. Even if Beck is let go due to major loss of Advertisers he will
still get his $50 Million. He has reaped an obscene amount of $ for his warped views &
stupid humor. Aint American Capitalism just great?

If he got $10 Mill a year imagine how much the #1 & #2 got.

23. I have.
Some years ago, I recall his getting a deal like Beck's with a twenty-five mil honeypot. That may have changed some, but if it's in the ballpark then Hannity probably drops in at about fifteen.

I can make a case for that much money coming into elbow-rubbing distance with such a level of bitterness and hate. I'm only speculating, but cautionary tales abound involving the sadness that walks in the door with these two partners.

Once you own all the crap you really want to own, then all that's left is owning people, and that not only sucks but, as the world, hopefully with us going along, moves left, the number of lip-curling sneers these creeps accumulate can only increase.
