Saw a Star Trek: TNG episode about torture today ...
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 05:54 PM by Akoto
It addressed the subject of torture, as well as military rule, and of how it's ultimately self-defeating regardless of the motivation. Very intense, a bit hard to watch, but quality viewing. Rather sad that our culture has since become like the villains here. I'm always amazed at how matters dealt with on Star Trek have become real for us so many years later.

The episodes are called "Chain of Command," and there are parts one and two. I wish I could post the whole thing, but this is all I could find:

EDIT: Found another clip toward the ending.

2. There. Are. Four. Lights!
I love that episode.

And you're right; it's ultimately self-defeating.

I wish the Bush Administration could get that through their freakin' heads.

4. Is this the one with Picard being tortured?
If it's the episode I'm thinking of, that torturous alien was a father and his child came in and saw what her dad was doing.

It was excellent.
Many episodes correlate to what has gone on.

6. Is this the one where the Cardissian tortured a naked Picard?
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 05:49 PM by RamboLiberal
I caught a bit of it a couple of months ago and yeah I couldn't help but think of the Bush admin and their love of torture.

Should be required viewing in the Congress & WH!

On edit I see Akoto answered this in response to another poster. Thanks.

8. It's also been done in Babylon 5 and in Farscape a lot, too.
In fact, Farscape does for torture what Star Trek: TNG did for Commander Data in the Holodeck.

19. G4 is kinda a strange channel...
They cater to your stereotypical single male beer drinkers ego if you catch my drift. I don't watch any other shows except TNG. Sometimes it comes on alternate nights and weekends. So keep checking your schedule and enjoy.... :)

14. Torture in the end is not about information gathering
It is a political tool to smash opposition. It instills fear and oppression.
