Iraq War Source Revealed As Liar And Drunk
2007-11-04 02:17pm

The Iraqi man whose information formed the foundation of the US government's decision to invade Iraq has been revealed as a liar and drunk.

The CBS show 60 Minutes identified the man, known as "Curveball," as Iraqi defector Rafid Ahmed Alwan.

The US TV network said he lied to win asylum after arriving in a German refugee centre in 1999 and was not the chemical expert he claimed he was.

Mr Ahmed Alwan claimed Iraq had mobile bio-weapons labs in which weapons of mass destruction were being developed.

The CBS 60 Minutes web site says Curveball was "not only a liar, but also a thief and a poor student instead of the chemical engineering whiz he claimed to be.

The information supplied by Curveball was used by the US Secretary of State at the time, Colin Powell, in a speech to the United Nations to justify the invasion of Iraq.

3. Colon Powell knew it was bullshit before he entered the building.
The entire administration knew it was bullshit. This is buck-passing, plain and simple.

5. Powell is a disgrace.
The first time I've watched 60 minutes since they canned Dan Rather. I tuned in just in time to catch this. Great coverage by Bob Simon. I think it's impeachment time.

8. Ya know one way that I thought that Colin could have maybe redeemed a bit ...
of himself would have been to come forward and tell all that he knows.... I realize now that he isn't going to do that and I have lost any and all respect for this man... The fact that he quit/was fired is one thing, but he was very instrumental in taking us into Iraq in the first place and that to me closes the coffin on this man.

10. I had great respect for Colin Powell until I saw him waving that vial around at the UN
I knew it was BS, I knew HE knew it was BS, yet he did it anyway.

He could've been President. Now he's just a shill for criminals.

So damn sad.
