City Pays $12K For Fake Christmas Tree

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The city of Port St. Lucie will be celebrating this holiday season with a nearly $12,000 fake Christmas tree.

The rented 30-foot artificial tree is scheduled to be delivered to city hall next week.

The city has a three-year, $35,250 contract for the tree.

City Manager Don Cooper told employees to cancel the contract, but Budget Director Dave Pollard said the deadline to take such action has already passed.

The tree will be displayed on the front lawn of Port St. Lucie's city hall. A lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 6.

How much would it be to buy the tree, and then store it during the off season...
