22. Nader is a greater traitor than anyone who voted against this.
Were it not for him and his short-sighted supporters, we would have had a President Gore, and not a President Bush.

Exactly.
They have betrayed the country. We keep hearing apologists saying that they are acting like politicians. Balony. The minute they took the oath of office -- to uphold and protect the Constitution -- they stopped being politicians, and became members of the House of Representatives.

Shame on them. Thet have betrayed their oath.

4. You're still a dem
the question is whether they are or not. It also is an open question how smart they are for handing their power over to Bush and Cheney.

10. well, I'm sure my rep voted to table
and he represents the only known state in the country where over 60% are in favor of impeachment. I wish he'd cosponsored HR 533 but he's still a better person and far more of a progressive than Paul will ever be.

ron paul is the proverbial stopped clock.

9. 164 (so far) Republicans voting AGAINST tabling it - show more courage than most Dems.
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 03:50 PM by TahitiNut
A whole hoard last minute switching ... shows that the OVERWHELMING majority of the People detest Cheney. Only with that appreciation does this vote make sense.

15. FEWER Republicans voting to table than Democrats!
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 03:32 PM by TahitiNut
I suppose some might weigh in to claim it's partisan hypocrisy ... or political triangulation in 'swing' districts. All manner of fictitious rationales might be projected, I guess.

The last minute vote-switching now has MORE GOPhers voting against tabling than for tabling.

24. LOOK DEEPER ...
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 03:56 PM by TahitiNut
This was a moment to appreciate. Here's my interpretation:

REMEMBER: This is NOT a vote to impeach. This is a vote to table or not. They would, if not tabled, refer it to committee - the House Judiciary (Conyers).

The GOP turned to "I dare you!" What started as a cover against supporting the most UNPOPULAR VP in American History is now a GOP confrontation with the Democrats ... and can ONLY be based on the GOP believing the Democrats don't have the spine or the fortitude to pursue this.

This is a "put up or shut up" moment ... where the poltical spinelessness of the left is being called out.

16. The name isn't the problem. The blind voting is.
If we were smart, we would rededicate this website to replacing our DINOs with real DEMS after we get Bush the fuck out.

That means that we put our efforts into highlighting campaigns of insiders and promoting dem candidates to challenge them.

19. Why support something that will end in disaster?
The Republicans had a failed impeachment and it didn't do them any good. It's absolutely pointless to walk into failure.

25. I have long felt DU should be renamed dU...
From Democratic(party)Underground to

democratic (principle) Underground

Although I like CU - Constitutional Underground - even better.

Today's vote to table H.Res 333 was the final straw for me- although many individual Democratic politicians serve our interests well, the Democratic Party, as an organization, as an institution, has ceased to serve the public's interest, has ceased to protect the Constitution.

If this board were to truly function as an "underground" organization, in opposition to the status quo, DC insider DNC, and work to dismantle the current party by using grassroots Lamont vs. Lieberman efforts to defeat every last one of the Vichy Dems who continue to enable fascism in the US, then I would support keeping the capital "D" in DU.

That would require a re-visioning, a re-crafting of the mission of this forum...

Skinner?
