The Repukes are voting for it because they know the vote will fail
And they are probably Repukes who are in close races next year.

1. Re: the close races...
so they're thinking that making a mock stand against the criminals will help them? Is that it?

3. well in my district which the Repuke won by 6000 votes last time
I can see our side using this vote against him.

It wouldnt surprise me that he voted for it.

And also this is not a vote on the bill itself but a vote to get rid of it completely without debate.

"Disgusting" doesn't even come close.

17. Yep, when the question of accountability comes up with their
constituents, they will say, with the vote count/party affiliation in hand, they were for accountability, the Dems were not.

Unbelievable how this seems to continue to happen.

31. He'll never get impeached - where are the 67 votes in the senate?
Impeachment only IMPROVED Clinton's popularity rating. Do we want to make republicans more popular.

We impeach Cheney without removing him from office it's like we're giving him the biggest joke he'll enjoy telling at cocktail parties.

34. Clinton gained popular through the impeachment and....
Cheney could have a negative approval rating and we still won't get the 67 votes needed to impeach even if EVERY Democrat, independant and hell Joe Lieberman voted for impeachment. Perhaps we could pull off a few moderate republicans but we still won't get the count to actually remove him

29. This is nothing more than a game of Chicken
And republicans are gunning the gas knowing that either (A) The democrats don't have the votes or (B) the democrats get enough votes and then the impeachment will all encompass them for the next year that we lose bigtime in the 2008 elections.

Anyone who thinks these republicans are our heroes knows shit about politics

Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 03:58 PM by rocknation
The only reason not to impeach someone is because he hasn't done anything impeachable. We need a Dem party that's willing to at least TRY to do the right thing.

36. The right thing is to fight harder against Bush and his damn veto threats
in order to get stuff done.

Republicans started planning the Clinton impeachment back in 2001 with people like Richard Mellon-Scaife and others like him tossing millions of dollars to investigate the Clinton background and find any dirt they could to go after Clinton.

We do not have that on the democratic side along with not having the votes to make it happen.

Dems want to win in 2008 - get s-CHIPS passed and do something about this damn war.

the problem us that the media will turn this around on the Dems or at least try to. Should be interesting to watch.

41. Apparently, Repub leadership advised to change all those votes...
hoping the resolution would go immediately to debate, to embarrass any Democrats who stood in support of it.

Strange tactics, these House Republicans have. Kucinich is now speaking of the importance of the voice of the American people and the destruction of our Constitution.
