Voices from PAKISTAN: "We feel as though the world has abandoned us."
"The people of Pakistan are in a state of shock. We really don't know what is going to happen next. We feel as though the world has abandoned us.

It feels like we are in the Stone Age as all our private TV channels are off air. We are relying on internet news sites for access to information.

It is like we are hostages in our own country. We are not afraid but we are worried about what the future holds for us. Our country is at stake because of one person."

=====

"We are not afraid but have a deep concern about the situation. The private TV channels are off. Only our official TV PTV is on and we get the news and updates from newspapers and the internet.

The majority of the people of Pakistan live in poor circumstances; they hardly manage to provide financially for their family. They don't have time to come out onto the streets to protest.

If you try to protest nobody knows if agency officials will pick you up and take you away. We already have missing people. Protesting against the government is risky. If somebody tries he may be picked up and never returned to his family."

=====

1. How terrifying for them. Thank you for posting this.

I saw a video where Biden explained that the majority of people in Pakistan are in the "middle" - yet the media coverage leads us to think that they're either radicals or in lockstep with Bush.

Here's a link to a Pakistan statement from Biden I posted, but got buried amid all the House vote excitement (understandable).

It just shows that he understands the situation and I find it hopeful that someone is obviously concerned and giving serious thought about it.

Edit because I forgot to insert the link. Again.

R&K #4 ....

Bush Inc invaded Iraq because of "freedom and democracy". They said the judicial system was corrupt. Saddam was a tyrant and the people were oppressed.

The bastard dictator is Pakistan has suspended the constitution, fired the chief justice and appointed his own lackey. Countless numbers are being rounded up and imprisoned.

And these putrid Bush bastards support him because he's our "great ally" on the "war on terra".

God damn you Bush Inc!

18. From India...
Emergency imposed in Pakistan with Bush nod: Report
http://www.zeenews.com/articles.asp?rep=2&aid=405607&sid=SAS&sname=

Islamabad, Nov 05: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf proclaimed emergency in the country only after receiving a nod from the Bush Administration, a diplomatic source has claimed.

Though the US was averse to the idea of imposing emergency, it gave the go ahead to Musharraf because of the sporadic violence across the country, especially in the troubled Swat region and other tribal dominant areas, the source further revealed.

The Bush Administration believed that the emergency was necessary to contain rising extremism in the country, The Nation reported.

Another source said that if that were not the case, the Pentagon would not have rushed to announce that the US would continue its military aid to Musharraf regime.

"At this point, the declaration does not impact on our military support for Pakistan's efforts in the war on terror," said Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary.

I guess other nations call it as they see it.

25. Uh, right
Does Bush expect us to believe the best manner of containing a proliferating reactionary social movement is to engage in draconian methods? Well, it worked well enough for Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi...

YOU responsible for your own country. I've had enough of "helping" people get democracy, especially in your part of the world. Sorry to sound so callous, but experience tells me that's what's best for you anyway.

15. George Bush did
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 06:33 PM by Nederland
And that has everything to do with the people of Pakistan rising up and taking their country back. If they want it back, they need to do something about it for themselves, not complain to the rest of the world. In fact, I'd love it if they installed a real democracy and told George Bush to stick his money up his ass.

16. Jaybus. Pick up a history book, would you please?
And just how do you propose that a country made up of impoverished, uneducated victims separated by the harshest geography stop a coup, anyway--since you are so smart and all. I'm fairly certain you have an answer. :sarcasm:

Fortunately, I don't need the "ignore" function to deal with the likes of the woefully ignorant. The scroll button works even better.

14. Kick and Recommended for it's importance to the world knowing
what should be known by every person on this planet, in fact, I think it should begin to be mandatory learning for every single human being to be aware of every single neighbor we have and what is going on in their country' that concerns everyday ordinary citizens, such knowledge so widely known are remarked on might perhaps one day help to begin putting an end to tyranny and the like.

in the eyes of the rest of the world. no ally would jump into the fray with us until he is gone. Pakistan is a real worry. As bush backs that right wing dictator, never went after osama b. thus let that nuke enabled country get perriously close to falling to alqueda and talliban hands. It would take no less than a pro in the WH, to stabilize the region. the 2008 election is not just whom we would like in the WH but who would be the best in the position. thats Joe Biden.
