I'm a long time DU member and lurker who rarely posts so thanks for indulging me. And while outrage fatigue often renders me useless when it comes to firing off angry letters to my Senators (and I'm ashamed of that),I finally had to let Sen. Feinstein know what a miserable, disgraceful cretin I thought she was. And while I never quite understand those hot-heads who angrily assert, with each and every disastrous move a Democrat makes, that they will NEVER vote for so-and-so again, I've decided that I will never vote for Feinstein again. I will work to nominate and elect another Democrat and, failing that, will write in another Democrat, vote third party, or abstain entirely. I don't intend to make this a habit but at least this once, and no matter how pointless and symbolic, I'm drawing my tiny line in the sand. I'm just so disappointed and, for at least today, truly despair that we'll ever beat these fuckers. I'll get back on the horse tomorrow.
My message, sent today:
Dear Senator Feinstein,
I'm sure you've received plenty of consitituent reaction to your decision to vote to advance Michael Mukasey's nomination from committee to the full senate. Before I add mine, let me make clear that, at 40 years old, this is the first time I have written you or any US Senator. And while the thrust of my message may seem merely the angry ravings of a frustrated citizen, I assure you there is not a false word written here. I intend, with absolute conviction, to follow through with what I'm about to say.
I have never voted for a Republican and can't imagine I ever will. I have voted for you EVERY time your name has appeared on my ballot. I will never do so again. You have long frustrated me as an enabler of our current failed president but your generally solid voting philosophy has kept me from completely withdrawing my support. With your vote to advance Mukasey, you have lost me utterly and completely and forever. I have read your shallow, cowardly reasoning and reject it in its entirety. I can't begin to imagine the twisted political reasoning (and I assume it can be nothing but a political decision absent any compelling moral or legal justification) you've undertaken to approve of an Attorney General who won't flatly declare illegal and unconstitutional acts to be illegal and unconstitutional. Since he further refused to state for the record that the President cannot use his consitutional authority as Commander in Chief to BREAK THE LAW, I am stunned, frustrated and horrified that you would vote to approve.
You have violated your oath to protect and defend the constitution and are thus a disgrace. Please, PLEASE, stop caving to this despicable President.
Since you have lost my vote and support forever, I don't need a computer generated form e-mail re-hashing your pointless justification for this unspeakably craven and shameful act. I just wanted you to know that one California resident has had enough and will have to look further down ticket the next time he sees your name on a ballot.
