Did you know that Huckabee is now in 2nd place in Iowa?
The race for the nomination in both parties is completely unpredictable. Iowa's caucuses are now less than 2 months away, but the fluidity in the race on both sides means anything could happen. There is NO presumptive winner on either side. The voters in Iowa and NH are not firm in their choices.

The repuke race, I think, shows real dissatisfaction with the choices offered, and though I'd be shocked to see Huckabee as the nominee, I wouldn't be surprised to see him shake up the race, despite his current lack of funding. Can't stand him, but he's a very effective campaigner.

1. Good--and I hope he splits the vote.

It'll split the crazies away from Rudy and his Pat Robertson endorsement, and the vote will fragment so much that someone like Shit Romney or Cabbage Face Thompson will get the nod.

2. I wonder how the different pub candidates will be effected by
the gop punishing 5 states and taking away half of their delegates?

Who benefits from gop's punishment?

3. That's a good question
and I haven't a clue as to who will benefit. But I do believe that there could be some big surprises for both parties in the 4 early caucus and primary states.

8. Romney is ahead in both Iowa and NH
He's also making gains in South Carolina. Not sure about Nevada. He's got a shitload of money and the ability to self-finance and he's spending it like mad.

6. I wouldn't be all that surprised if he were to mount a successful campaign
For all their bluster, I don't think Republican voters are at all happy with the alleged top tier of candidates. I think they see Huckabee in roughly the same light as Democrats saw Jimmy Carter in '76.

And yeah, I share your distaste for the man's politics. Of the whole bunch, he's the one I'd least want our candidates to face because I think he'd have the best chance of actually winning in Nov.

I think all the rest of the Gooper candidates are irredeemably, fatally flawed.

9. He won't get it.
Quite simply he doesn't have the dollars, and his moving up doesn't seem to significantly aid him in raising money. I hesitate to predict anything, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a Romney/Huckabee ticket. Huckabee would ameliorate fundy fears about Romney's mormonism and bring a southerner into the mix.

12. He scares the crap outta me,
I have been watching him. He seems to be just the right kind of guy for a lot of people. I don't know, they are all scary for whatever reason but next to Brownback who terrified me I have been watching Huckabee.

13. Mittens Is Gonna Win...
As one whose witnessed the Iowa caucuses, the mantra is that organization and money win. It's the candidate that shows up at the most pancake breakfasts or shows up in a Hawkeye cap that will get people to notice and participate. National polls mean nothing. It's all ground game.

Both Mittens and Huckabee have been working this state hard and it's showing. Ron Paul has been as well. Rudy's just mailed it in here thinking he'll get the delegates he needs in the big states, McCain is downright flakey and Thompson has been a big dud. This caucus is becoming a process of elimination...who wants it and who doesn't.

It just shows how poor the selection of candidates in the GOOP tent are...a vast contrast to ALL the Democratic candidates.

I think a Romney/Huckabee ticket would be formidable.

15. It's Their Best Hope
But I don't see it. The fact Robertson hopped for Rudy shows just how conflicted the religious right is. They never glammed onto Huckabee or Brownback and I can't see them packing church busses to vote for a Mormon. But he's built a good organization in Iowa, New Hampshire and is now gaining momentum in South Carolina. He is playing the game real smart and may run the opening table that could allow him to sneak up on Rudy in the big states. Rudy, on the other hand, is running a real inept campaign. Personally, I'd love to see him as the nominee as he's so flawed and guarantees things will be interesting. Mittens is a weasel...a smart one.

But I do see Huckabee as the front runner for VP...a bone tossed by either Mittens or Rudy to the religious right.

:hi:
