Since america is no longer the greatest country anymore...
..who is? France? England? Germany? China?

With all the wars and death we are bringing around the world nobody wants us to do anything for them anymore. The dollar is gone and nobody wants to do business with us. People are losing their homes at an alarming rate due to the credit crisis. Oil companies are make huge profits off $100 oil barrels and raising the cost of gas by about $.25 a day.

Or, will the elections turn things around for us? Will we get back to normal.

1. Of course people want to do business with us - Weak dollar boosts US exports
The weak dollar helped lift US exports to a fresh record and reduce America's trade deficit with the rest of the world to a 28-month low.

The trade gap narrowed in September by 0.6 per cent to $56.5bn as exports rose more quickly than imports, the Commerce Department said.

Overseas demand for US goods has provided an important lift for the economy and manufacturers at a time when domestic demands is easing amid a worsening housing slump.

Exports reached new highs for a seventh consecutive month, climbing 1.1 per cent to $140.1bn with an increase in shipments across industries such as food, autos and consumer goods.

An abrupt fall in the dollar against major currencies has made American goods cheaper for overseas buyers, and made US exports more attractive.

2. Depends on what you mean by 'Great'.
Strongest military? U.S. Powerful economy? We're up there. Most millionaires? U.S.

The highest standard of living for most of it's citizens while maintaining things like personal freedom, environmental respect, national security, civil rights, innovation, and meaningful traditions? This is closer to my definition and for that I'd say it's one of the Scandinavian countries.

3. There was a thread yesterday on a new report that rated USA's standard of living 15th.
I didn't search for the thread, but it was titled, "We're number 15!".

Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 03:26 PM by Darth Lenore
Ich will nach Berlin umziehen. Letztes Jahr habe ich die schönsten Wohnung gefunden, aber ich hatte kein Geld.

And also, I don't speak German very well.
