The Irvine Company gives a whole new meaning to "Living Green"
In their infinite quest to make a buck off real estate and property management in the Irvine Ranch area of Orange County, the Irvine Company has gone and painted the areas of Irvine charred by the Santiago Canyon fire green.

The areas that were charred just happened to be very close (across the road) to one of the newer neighborhoods, which has many brand new homes that are unoccupied.

Have I said how much I hate the Irvine Company?

1. Perhaps it's "Hydroseed".
Instant wildflowers & other foliage.

3. This is hard to believe, but I believe it.
I live in Tustin & guess who owns the mineral rights under my house? You guessed it, the Irvine Co.

5. Were you at all close to the fire?
I am in Northwood. We had a trying couple of days - thankfully we weren't evacuated, but we were ready to be.

6. No, near "old town"
The biggest threat we face is candles & grease fires. Lots of smoke for a day or two though. Santiago Canyon is burned from Irvine Lake all the way to Cook's Corners & beyond into Trabuco.
It's quite a scene.

7. It is awful.
I have been driving by a lot of it, trying to find a way to wrap my brain around it. There are even parts of the old El Toro base that are covered in char and soot. Granted, other than the beginnings of the Great Park construction, there is really nothing there, but still. The scale of this fire blows my mind (and from what I understand, it was fairly small, in terms of acreage!)
