Imagine voting Republican...
I had a devious idea after reading this piece on CommonDreams:

A Beautiful Corpse: Sixteen Sure Signs That the Regressive Right Is Over
by David Michael Green

http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/09/5124/

If the Religious Right could take over the Republican Party back in '88, perhaps progressives and liberals could make a bid for the crumbling GOP, and then after the corporatists leave for the Democratic Party (to join their compatriots there--thus consolidating them in one place!) and the Religious Right retreat from coherent public participation, there could be a genuine alternative national party. A liberal GOP, just like that of the late 19th Century, which dominated the American political system from the end of the Civil War, through Reconstruction, and into the early 20th Century (the United States used to be a pretty damned liberal place at that time).

Never happen here, but if it did happen on some weird, parallel planet, my weird, parallel self would be voting Republican.

Wouldn't be prudent.
My head will explode
into a thousand points
of light.

5. More likely the party would just fold its doors,
which has also happened in history. But this kind of what-if about politics fascinates me.

Is it any more likely that we could take over the Democratic Party, I wonder? Either would do.

and teh dems going back to the conservative roots, of the late 19th century might happen, at which point which party will replace the dems as a progressive party?

10. Yeah, it happened once before. Back then, it was the Republicans who were the progressives.
Then came the realignment after Teddy Roosevelt made his independent run. He siphoned off so many progressive Republicans that the Republican party fell under the control of big business interests.

11. I have a pretty good imagination.
I can imagine Dennis Kucinich actually winning. I can imagine discovering life on other worlds. I can imagine human consciousness being transferred to non-biological media. I can imagine time looping back on itself so that the universe is the cause of its own creation. I can imagine large pieces of furniture spontaneously bursting out of my ass.

But nope, I just can't imagine this.
