LAS VEGAS --

A man who police said attempted to run over an emergency responder while drunk has political ties.

Eric Ensign, nephew of U.S. Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., has been charged in connection with trying
to kill two emergency responders, driving under the influence and damaging an emergency-response vehicle, authorities said.

Emergency responders were called to the scene where Ensign was seen slumped behind the wheel of
his car on Friday morning, police said. Authorities tried to talk with Ensign when, police said,
he became combative and tried to strike the responders with his car, then rammed a fire department
vehicle that had responded.

When contacted about his nephew's arrest, representatives for Sen. John Ensign said that
this is a private, family matter and he would not be issuing a statement at this time.

But I guess I'd drink like that too if I was in a repuke family!

The Dems have their share of drunks as well, I'd guess.
