I'll promise to help get rid of as many Republicans as possible in 2008, if you promise to help get rid of as many DINO's as possible in 2010, 2012, 2014, etc...

Whaddya say?

1. I'm certainly in favor of that
Get our safe majority in 2008, start targeting DINOS in 2010, pour money into opposition primaries, chip away at the bastards until they are either gone or an impotent minority that can't do anything but squawk along with the few GOPs left.

2. We can do something about conservative Democratic politicians now.

Donate to progressive Democrat Donna Edwards, who is running in Maryland against conservative Democrat Al Wynn.

This is a rematch, and she almost won the primary in 2006.

3. As an independent liberal, I tend to think it'd be far easier ...

... if DINO/BlueDog "Democrats" had been replaced with GOPhers in 2004 so a "true" liberal Democrat could then win in 2006. If partisans actually spent more time on Quality Assurance for the "Democrat" brand name they'd have to spend far less time and effort attempting to enforce "brand loyalty." As a native Detroiter, I've been long immune to the sloganeering of "Quality is Job #1" ... knowing that it's a substitute for actually investing in quality.

I've been on the planet long enough to see long-established brand names (e.g. RCA Victor) with a reputation for quality get bought out by cheap-goods corporations who milked that brand for many years, producing complete garbage but continuing to ride out the vestigial perceptions of brand quality. The GOP has milked the "Honest Abe" populist legacy for many decades past the time they adhered to the same standards as Lincoln. Clinton was NOT in the same mold as FDR - not even close.

Lord knows that the political parties have never been wholly committed to their party platforms, but I don't think I recall a time when there was as little a central political philosophy as there is today. For example, I doubt Ben Nelson has the slightest agreement with John Rawls - assuming he even begins to understand him let alone having read him.
