Bread, circuses and the theft of community

Circuses can only go so far in diverting the public’s attention, however. A hungry feeling in the stomach is not easily ignored. The corporate media can only entertain you so much. When the bread starts to be in short supply, people may start getting interested in the way things really work. If you are one of the 40 million people in the U.S. without health care, no amount of media tomfoolery is going to distract you when one of your kids gets sick. No football game is going to divert your attention from the fact you have just lost your life’s savings in a corporate rip-off, or your job has been exported to slave labor in some foreign country where they pay their workers 27 cents an hour. As Lincoln said, “...you can’t fool all of the people all the time.”

To survive,we can't afford to be be distracted by bullshit. We will need to get to know each other again,on a regular basis.A Community is not built by occasionally meeting at a bar ,club or coffee shop every two months or by making meet-ups,that meet once a month or through on-line chats.

It means finding a way to get together in person regularly, once a week at the least to become, as Hakim Bey says, "groups of friends trying not just to overcome isolation but also to enhance each other's lives".

This requires us to tune out the whole cult of the circus, turn off the addictions, get out, clearing our minds of all the bullshit and adopting new ways of thinking and seeing and sharing what we are within with others, and learning about who those other people are.Re-learn doing and relating together. We can learn by observation and sharing about the way this country has been manipulated, understand the thoughts and listen to them,Discuss how our minds are infiltrated by certain toxic anti community beliefs or experiences and find ways to overcome it and protect each other from it's bad effects. We need to learn to lead ourselves from within, and know what we desire and WHY we want it before we let a leader, tv show, or political 'father' figure tell us what to think, feel,be or want.We have to be responsible for not only our own freedom and human rights but the freedom and human rights of other's too.And that is not an easy task when TV is on ,dominating every night because work has drained the life out of you,and wages and no health insurance are adding to the desperation of making ends meet in an economy that wants you over a barrel and miserable so all you want is a sense of power or escape or to numb your emotions away.Escape and abuse of power is often an addiction. Escape or getting a feeling of control over by any means that works does not work forever and that addiction has lead to some sad developments socially for all of us.

We can observe others out there really do share some of our desires too,and they can help us,and we can help them, too. To do that we must do away with the invisible barriers of insecurity, and fear, stop this over-polite self imposed holding back of conversation in public,do away with notions of social barriers like beliefs and classes as an excuse to avoid reaching out, speaking up,knowing each other as equals and human beings again. And you cannot do any of that glued to a TV watching American Idol.

Getting to know each other over time,we can then feel comfortable asking each other to help us. so that we can send out a call to our friends which is none other than all of us. This reciprocation it develops real trust, over time, which takes work, and it also tends to display a person's inner integrity quality. We can learn to discern dangerous exploiters from the different who we once misunderstood. Instead of reacting on false images we think are real because of what gets pounded into our heads watching the addictive spectacles..We will receive quick responses with offers to help when
helpers know us and care about us as people like we do of them.
there is nothing to fear and it is not 'weakness' to care and be cared about.

.. We need to learn to let go and share our resources, and give away without fear of scarcity in the land of over abundance.Give away without expecting a return on the investment that is an economic exchange not giving. Giving out of a desire to control is manipulative giving and it does not build trust. Our market is based on economic exchanges where every 'gift costs and has strings, this type of economy has ruined community trust. And this dependence on the corporate system and addictions it thrives on has made this nation too obedient, too dependant, sick and scared.

We need each other to not be so scared of each other we fail to come to each other's aid and care.Helping one another teaches us how to trust each other and it reinforces and enlarges our community of mutual friendship and this makes us healthier.

Than among friends together, pooling our resources we can develop our own economies that work for us without corporate exploitation...Eventually we could abandon the marketplace that thrives on our pain, misery, fears, needs, addiction and disasters..

As more people turn off the TV, go out and talk to each other, and help each other ,and get to know one another they may discover we don't need the media or corporate circuses to fill us up anymore to entertain us and numb out the loneliness and stress.

We don't need corporations to feed our addictions to spectacles and more stuff,we don't need. We do not need to war over social status and who's got most, while thieves in suits whom tell us we have to trust them because they say we are dependant upon their exploitative economy and market go about stealing our bread until we are the ones who go without while they hoard it all in this land of over abundance.

It is a tragedy when we buy into the lie that the exploiters of humanity tell us theirs is the only way to relate and exchange things and get help.It is double tragic when we become so addicted to passive non-interactive, non-social entertainment and violence and solo sex we can no longer feel confident or safe enough to simply socialize with each other and share ourselves and give to each other as human beings.

2. re publishing elsewhere...
I agree it's a very well-done piece. Here's the submission pages for a couple of places that might be interested in publishing it:
