Is this the same flu like illness that's been killing our bird population in Colorado?

I wonder if we're being lied to about this.

Too often "flu-like illness" is used to describe anything and everything, including gastrointestinal upset.

Peter Pan, or more accurately Conagra distributors(again) have a massive recall on salmonella tainted jars of all brands of its product having the initial numbers 2111 in its code. it was more evident overseas because an American staple sticks out in the food chain. Here it is a staple for the young and our news is corporate news.

You are more likely to hear about mysterious deaths than a food recall.

I wonder if these people are doing surveillance on the dead birds to see if they have H5N1.

in the sudden bird dieoffs. I read somewhere that preliminary research had turned up a fungal infection, but I haven't read anything more about that. I do know that they've ruled out H5N1.

As for the kids, it could be salmonella, written off as stomach flu. Salmonella can kill a kid pretty quickly through dehydration. ConAgra has a lot of explaining to do about how the contamination happened, since it's usually confined to animal products like chicken meat and egg products.

Then again, Smith died after a "stomach flu," so there may indeed be a potentially fatal one out there.

Empty now. I and my husband and grown son ate it. We were sick last month with what we thought was the flu. Now I'm not so sure.
I kept the jar and the lid just in case. We had symptoms like stomach flu. Don't know if it was the peanut butter or whether we just had the flu. :shrug:

People who think they have "stomach flu" usually have either a gastrointestinal virus (norovirus, rotavirus, etc) or bacterial food poisoning (of which Salmonella is one).

Influenza is a RESPIRATORY virus.

Salmonella is a bacterium that causes GASTROINTESTINAL disease, which is only infrequently complicated by systemic disease.

NO ONE IN THE MEDIA can report on science or medicine without a university level education in science or medicine.
Most the news writers are ignorant of science and medicine, and the news readers are, too. So they report DRECK and made-up crap.

I came down with something a week and a half ago
and it was a NASTY cold.... I still have a sore throat
and congestion (that's sloooowly fading).
Lots of people seem to have been slammed with the same bug.

That causes rashes on the chest. My son had it a few years ago...

It is generally easily treated with antibiotics and isn't really anymore sever that strep...but does need to be treated

Many cases of strep throat can go away without antibiotics (abx), but some need abx to get rid of it. Abx treated strep throat is less likely to progress to scarlet fever. Some cases of scarlet fever progress to rheumatic fever which can involve heart, joints, skin, and brain, if treated with abx it is less likely to progress.

My grandmother died from this flu @ 25 when my dad was five and her treatment was non-existent.

There may be an abundance of pollens/molds in the air with the unusually warm January-Feb we had, couple with lots of rain last week. Mine started with sneezing and went downhill from there. And I am not the only one.

Many schools in Chico are reporting an absence rate far above average, as children and staff fall victim to flu or other illnesses, such as strep throat, bronchitis and stomach distress.

I will not get a vaccine. First time in late 70's flu shot was linked to Gueillen-Barre (sp?) syndrome and second time in 1997 I came down with an awful flu right after getting the shot.

I'll stick to hot and sour soup, liquids and plenty of bed rest.

words get tossed around. Anytime anybody gets sick with anything, the media describes it as a "flu-like illness". Even when people have OBVIOUS FOOD POISONING.

Flu, aka influenza, is a respiratory illness. Fever, aches, cough are the predominant signs. Flu is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!a gastrointestinal illness. If someone has vomiting or diarrhea they don't likely have the flu, dammit. They probably have a GI virus or bacterial food poisoning.

Seattle had a child die from the flu in 1999, it happens. It's not the bird flu. It's the regular old flu. We've just had a late, bad, flu season up here near Seattle.

Let's just hope that these criminals use V for Vendetta as a playbook.

in children? I would be interested to see what they are. This sounds like media fear tactics. And this is peak influenza time with the extreme cold thats been around of late.

My 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old girls got flu shots this year but we all still ended up with the worst stomach virus my husband or I ever had. Non stop throwing up all night and flu-like symptoms the next day. I could barely get up but I had to force myself because my girls needed me, they were throwing up too. It was brutal. I have diabetes on top of it all and was really worried when my blood sugar dropped that I was going to have to go to the hospital and have an iv put in as I just couldn't keep anything down for over 24 hours. I take metaphormin to lower my blood sugar and had taken it that night before I got sick so my blood sugar was dropping but I couldn't eat anything to stabalize it. Getting sick is really dangerous for alot of people, even if its just a stomach virus or the flu.
