thank you note today. my state senator stepped down 8 days before the deadline to file. the "chosen" candidate has a lot of money and connections, and had no problem collecting the signatures that she needed. with no opposition, it would have been a cake walk, right through the general. another woman wanted to run. the local dfa was asked to help out. they are a hard working and effective bunch. they asked me to help. i did not have a lot of time, and was not feeling well. but i carried the clipboard around for a few days, and grabbed the parents of the trick or treaters that came to my house, and got 3 pages of good sigs. so, suzanne elders got on the ballot for senator from the 7th district in illinois. i posted about her here a couple times, and met her briefly when i dropped off the petitions. then i saw her at a dfa fundraiser. we have a lot in common, and we swapped some stories. i got the nicest, handwritten thank you note form her today. win or lose, i got to meet some a great person. this is why i love politics. it is worth the trouble.
